Halo: Edge Of Dawn Is A Direct Sequel To Infinite, But There’s A Catch

Halo Infinite was notable mainly for how it affected the Halo franchise and its fanbase. Despite high expectations from Microsoft, the game launched with several issues, including missing features and a strong focus on ongoing live services in its multiplayer mode.

Fans were really hoping for more depth from Infinite, both in how it played and its story, particularly when it came to learning more about the Halo universe. Now, Halo: Edge of Dawn is out, but it may not fully satisfy those expectations.

Halo Infinite Now Has A Direct Sequel

It Comes With Strings

I just finished reading Edge of Dawn, and it was great! It’s a new story by Kelly Gay that came out in December, and it’s the fourth book focusing on Master Chief. It takes place after the events of Halo Infinite, and follows Chief as he’s looking for people to team up with. The story really dives into Joyeuse (who feels a lot like Cortana), Chief himself, and the Harbinger. What’s really cool is that the audiobook has the original voice actors – so you get the real deal for all three characters!

Here’s the full synopsis for the book:

Following the defeat of War Chief Escharum and the disruption of the Banished leadership, Master Chief presses on in the fight on Zeta Halo, joined by his new AI and pilot, Fernando Esparza. While searching for surviving allies, he encounters a young combat medic who was imprisoned and tortured by the Banished and a mysterious figure called the Harbinger. This medic might have information crucial to understanding the secrets of the ancient Halo ring. However, their search is constantly threatened by Jega ‘Rdomnai, a dangerous and vengeful Blademaster.

Kelly Gay has written six Halo novels starting in 2017, and her latest, Edge of Dawn, is also receiving good reviews. While some fans might prefer a different way to continue the Halo story, this novel isn’t a remake or a re-telling of past events.

Halo: Edge Of Dawn Is A Book, Not A Game

If You’re Curious, It’s Cheaper Than A New Game

It’s surprising that the story in Halo Infinite didn’t really go anywhere, and Microsoft hasn’t given us significant news about the future of the Halo series in four years. We’re getting another remake of the very first Halo game in 2026, but fans have already experienced the beginning of Master Chief’s story multiple times. Now, they’re eager to find out what happens next.

What’s most disappointing for fans is that this news comes after the cancellation of planned story expansions for Halo Infinite. These expansions could have revitalized the game, potentially making a complete edition that would rank among the series’ best. The canceled DLC really took away that possibility.

While we anticipate Microsoft’s next move with Halo, you can enjoy Edge of Dawn now for a satisfying experience in the meantime.
