It seems like Xbox is really shifting things up, and their CEO, Asha Sharma, is calling it a “reset.” They are bringing back console exclusives, which is cool for some, but it sounds like games like Fable and the new Halo: Campaign Evolved will still come out on everything. The big takeaway though? This might be the last Halo game ever released on PlayStation. Seriously! It’s a little worrying, honestly.
Reliable Insiders Suggest Halo Was Pulled from State of Play Showcase at the Last Minute
The return to console exclusives is just part of a massive overhaul, which will reportedly include layoffs at Xbox, as well. According to a recent blog post from CEO Asha Sharma, the company needs a reset to address ongoing gaps between budgets and revenue. Investing in Xbox consoles, including bringing back exclusive game releases, is part of the broader plan.
Rumors suggest that the decision to return to console-exclusive games might have been made pretty last-minute going into last week’s Xbox Games Showcase. It certainly came as a surprise to many when Gears of War: E-Day was revealed as the first Xbox exclusive in over a year. While longtime Xbox fans might be happy, not everyone is. Gamers who have a PS5 at home were no doubt hoping to see this game released for their console, like other major upcoming Xbox Games titles like Fableand Halo: Campaign Evolved.
Xbox recently changed its plans, and according to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, this could strain its relationships with game developers. A trailer for Halo: Campaign Evolved was reportedly scheduled to appear at PlayStation’s recent State of Play event, but it was pulled because Xbox is now focusing more on keeping games exclusive to its own consoles. The trailer ended up being shown at an Xbox event instead. This decision may have damaged Xbox’s relationship with PlayStation, potentially impacting future Halo releases on the PS5.
Currently, Xbox intends to release games previously confirmed for other platforms, including what we hope will still be Halo: Combat Evolved. The Steam and PlayStation 5 logos were still visible at the end of the latest trailer. However, PlayStation is reportedly unhappy with Xbox’s late decision about who released the trailer first, so this might be the last time fans see a PlayStation logo associated with a new Halo game.
