
As summer blockbusters wrap up, we’re moving into the time when potential award-winning films are released. One of these is “Hamnett,” featuring Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal, Emily Watson, and Joe Alwyn, directed by Chloe Zhao, who won an Oscar for “Nomadland.
I find myself deeply moved by a captivating narrative that delves into Agnes’ journey – the cherished wife of none other than William Shakespeare himself. This poignant tale unfolds as she grapples with an unimaginable loss: the demise of their only son, Hamnet. As if mirroring the emotional turbulence behind the creation of the Bard’s most celebrated work, Hamlet, it paints a vivid portrait of human emotion and resilience in the face of tragedy.
In the 2021 film “The Lost Daughter,” Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley both appeared, however, their characters did not share any screen time together.
