Hannah Montana’s Jason Earles Admits He Lied About His Age During Show

Jason Earles kept his age on the low so he could rock out the show.

Okay, so this is a fun little Hollywood secret! As someone who keeps up with celebrity stories, I recently heard that Jason Earles, who played Miley Cyrus’s brother on Hannah Montana, actually wasn’t a teenager when he got the part. He told producers he was younger than he actually was – he fibbed about his birthday! – to be able to play the 16-year-old Jackson Stewart. It just goes to show you, even on Disney Channel, a little bit of strategic storytelling can help you land your dream role!

He revealed on the March 17th episode of the Best of Both Our Worlds podcast that he feared losing his role and being replaced because he hadn’t been truthful during auditions. He admitted to telling producers he was 18 years old when he wasn’t.

Fortunately, Jason, who is now 48, managed to hide his true age for a while after getting the part, revealing that the network didn’t realize how old he was until about halfway through the first season.

I remember a network executive coming to the show and being surprised to learn I was 28 years old. I simply confirmed that it was true.

Jason, who was married to Jennifer Earles and later married Katie Drysen in 2017, had to reveal another personal detail when a company executive questioned him about his relationships.

I remember Jason telling this story, and it was wild. He was casually explaining his relationship, and apparently blurted out, “Oh, that woman I’m always kissing? That’s my wife!” The executive he was talking to was clearly surprised and asked if there was anything else he should know. Jason insisted there wasn’t. Then, the executive asked about kids, and Jason said he didn’t have any. The executive’s response? He basically said they should keep it that way for a few years – it was such a strange thing to say!

The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special promises to give fans a look behind the scenes of the show, with Miley, now 33, sharing memories of her early success and performing some of Hannah Montana’s most popular songs.

She shared in a preview for the new special that she enjoyed playing Hannah in the past and is loving it even more now.

Miley Cyrus continues to be a major force in music. Since her days as Hannah Montana, she’s released six studio albums: Bangerz (2013), Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz (2015), Younger Now (2017), Plastic Hearts (2020), Endless Summer Vacation (2023), and Something Beautiful (scheduled for 2025). Following her split from Liam Hemsworth, Miley Cyrus dated both Cody Simpson and Kaitlynn Carter. She is currently engaged to Maxx Morando.

 

Following the conclusion of Hannah Montana in 2011 after four seasons, the actress continued her career by providing voice work for animated shows like Family Guy and Rainbow Brite. She also made appearances on television series including Mom, Young & Hungry, Cleaners, and The Kominsky Method. Currently, she stars in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage on CBS.

Following the conclusion of Hannah Montana, the actor appeared in shows like Kickin’ It on Disney XD, WTH: Welcome to Howler, and Hotel Du Loone. He married Katie Drysen in 2017.

The actor was on the show Pair of Kings and later hosted PrankStars after Hannah Montana finished its run. In 2011, at age 20, he was arrested for driving under the influence. As a result, his role on Pair of Kings was removed, and PrankStars was canceled. More recently, he’s continued acting, appearing in voice roles on the animated series Phineas and Ferb and Milo Murphy’s Law.

The actor has been in several TV shows and movies recently, including The Middle, Jean-Claude Van Johnson, Ben-Hur, and Pitch Perfect 3. He had a leading role in the 2020 film The King of Staten Island, directed by Pete Davidson and Judd Apatow, and now appears in The Fallout.

She returned to Broadway in late 2011, appearing in a revival of Godspell. In addition to acting, she’s a singer and opened for the Jonas Brothers on their Asia 2012 tour. More recently, she’s made guest appearances on television shows like Baby Daddy and Charmed. She became engaged to Scott Kline in November 2018, and they married the following June, with Uzo Aduba as her maid of honor.

Following the conclusion of Hannah Montana, the actress continued her career with roles in television shows like Melissa & Joey and The Young and the Restless, as well as several made-for-TV movies, including Life-Size 2.

The performer came in fourth place on season seven of Dancing With The Stars and put out his first album in 2012. He also kept acting, with appearances in two episodes of Melissa & Joey and in the TV movies Sharknado 4: The 4th Awakens and Sharknado 5: Global Swarming.

Miley Cyrus’s father is still focused on his music. He had several country hits, and in 2019, he reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart by collaborating with Lil Nas X on the popular remix of “Old Town Road.” He also starred in the show Still the King in 2016 and 2017.

Miley Cyrus’s younger sister was on six episodes of the show Hannah Montana. She started her own music career in 2016, releasing her first song, “Make Me (Cry).” In 2018, she briefly dated Lil Xan and they recorded a song together called “Live or Die,” but they split up after a few months.

She got engaged to designer Pinkus in 2023.
