As a die-hard film enthusiast, I must issue a word of warning: The ensuing piece might divulge a smidgen of spoilers regarding the latest release in 2025 – “Happy Gilmore 2“. If you’ve yet to catch this cinematic gem on the big screen, perhaps it’s best to abstain from the fairway… or, tread carefully as you peruse the following text.
As a fan who adores “Uncut Gems” featuring Adam Sandler, I wasn’t anticipating to find “Happy Gilmore 2” as entertaining as it turned out to be. During the viewing of this sequel where he returns as the unconventional golf champ, there were hardly any moments when I wasn’t chuckling with my Netflix subscription.
I also found delight in the numerous appearances, featuring golf legends such as John Daly, who played a significant role as himself, as well as musicians like Post Malone, and comedians often seen in Adam Sandler’s films… Not every single one of them, though. There was one crucial character from the classic golf movie that I couldn’t help but feel astonished by their absence.
Where Is Otto?
1996’s “Happy Gilmore” features a scene where the protagonist, Happy, learns he must bring his own caddy for a golf tournament and hires a homeless man named Otto whom he had recently met. In the sequel, most of the original characters either appear or are fondly remembered, so I expected to see Otto make a brief appearance. However, Otto’s impact on the new Netflix movie is limited to Happy quoting him in one scene.
My regular caddie moved to Switzerland for tax purposes…
It’s quite unexpected that Otto, a role played by Allen Covert who has consistently appeared in Adam Sandler’s movies since 1989, is missing from the latest project. Interestingly, IMDb shows Covert as making an uncredited appearance as Otto, but it seems likely this was added by a fan expecting to see him. However, the reason why Allen Covert did not return to his role from “Happy Gilmore” (which he also played in 2011’s “Jack and Jill”) has yet to be disclosed.

On The Other Hand, Oscar Is An Awesome Replacement
To tell you the truth, it wasn’t until later that I realized Covert was missing from “Happy Gilmore 2.” It wasn’t due to my involvement in the story or keeping up with the humor, but rather because the actor portraying Happy’s new caddy, Benito “Bad Bunny” Ocasio, stole the show for me.
It came as a surprise to discover that the Puerto Rican rapper and actor, who demonstrated his comedic talent during his stint as both host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live’s Season 49, was set to play a significant role in this sequel of an absurd comedy. Nevertheless, I am pleased that he and Sandler had a chance encounter that eventually resulted in his casting, as he turns out to be one of the standout aspects of the film with a side-splittingly funny portrayal of Oscar.
In a similar vein to Corey Chichizola’s glowing review for TopMob regarding Happy Gilmore 2, I would express that the sequel turned out well overall, even though there was an unexpected character death which has left some viewers displeased. Yet, my curiosity remains about Allen Covert’s situation, and I can’t help but speculate on his connection with Sandler. We’ll have to wait and see if he appears in Sandman’s next comedy project.
