Harrison Ford’s Only Major Horror Movie Just Arrived to Netflix (And It’s an Underrated Gem)

Harrison Ford is a legendary and incredibly busy actor in Hollywood, with a career stretching back decades and filled with hit movies of all types. Surprisingly, though, he’s appeared in very few horror films. In fact, he’s only been in two: a 1977 made-for-TV supernatural horror movie called The Possessed, and a suspenseful thriller from the 2000s that you can now watch on Netflix.

The movie What Lies Beneath is now streaming on Netflix, starting December 1st. Directed by Robert Zemeckis in 2000, this supernatural thriller stars Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer as a married couple, Norman and Claire Spencer. The story follows Claire as she begins to believe their lakeside house is haunted, and her investigation leads to shocking secrets about her husband and strains their marriage.

What Lies Beneath Marked a Change of Pace for Harrison Ford

Harrison Ford is famous for playing heroes like Han Solo in Star Wars and Indiana Jones. However, in What Lies Beneath, he took on a darker role, and delivered a convincing performance as a villain. Ford’s portrayal of Norman Spencer is masterful; he convincingly plays a loving husband while subtly hinting at a disturbing narcissism and sense of entitlement, leading the audience to miss crucial warning signs. This creates a lot of suspense throughout the film, culminating in a shocking reveal of his true nature – a reveal Ford commits to fully, especially in the now-iconic and frightening bathtub scene.

Harrison Ford’s role in What Lies Beneath was a departure from his usual heroic characters. He told Empire magazine that he felt he’d played enough ‘good guys’ and was looking for something different. He saw the role of Norman as a chance to surprise audiences, using their established image of him to create a twist that would serve the story.

Harrison Ford’s performance in What Lies Beneath was a brilliant match for Michelle Pfeiffer’s, showcasing his skill at playing a villain and proving his versatility as an actor. The film itself doesn’t get the recognition it deserves – director Robert Zemeckis masterfully creates suspense that culminates in a truly surprising twist. It’s well worth watching now that it’s available on Netflix.

What’s New on Netflix?

Netflix is adding a bunch of new movies and shows this month!
