The initial kill by Harrison Morgan in ‘Dexter: Resurrection‘ mirrors an event from his father’s earlier life. In ‘Dexter: Resurrection’, the story resumes for both Dexter and Harrison, a father-son duo burdened by their past. While Dexter’s baggage led him down the path of serial killing and caused turmoil in his existence, he chose to fake his death and leave Harrison behind at a tender age. The two reconnect after about a decade in ‘Dexter: New Blood’, with Harrison now a teenager grappling with self-doubt.
As a movie reviewer, I must say that the ending of this tale was undeniably heart-wrenching. In the series, we witness Dexter’s desperate attempt to mold Harrison in his own image by ingraining his code and teaching him the art of disguising murder. Unfortunately for Dexter, Harrison took matters into his own hands and ended up shooting his father.
The story seems to be hinting that Harrison may not share the same bloodthirsty inclinations as his father, but the upcoming series Dexter: Resurrection raises the intriguing question of whether they are more alike than Dexter cares to admit. A key scene in the show featuring Harrison mirrors a past moment from Dexter’s life, leaving us with the unsettling suspicion that the apple may not have fallen far from the tree after all.
Dexter: Resurrection‘s First Kill Mirrors a Moment from Dexter: Original Sin

In the first installment of the series Dexter: Resurrection, Harrison holds down a job at a hotel and performs various tasks for the high-profile visitors, such as procuring marijuana for them. One regular guest, Ryan Foster, heavily depends on Harrison. On one occasion, Ryan requests Harrison’s assistance in transporting a nearly unconscious woman to his room. He falsely claims they are married and she’s merely drunk, but Harrison recognizes her from prior encounters and is aware that she’s unattached. It soon becomes clear that Ryan intends to exploit the woman and commit sexual assault. Despite his apprehension about potential consequences, given he also resides in the hotel, Harrison decides to intervene and confronts Ryan, eventually leading to Ryan’s demise.
During an interview with ComicBook, Bryan Lillis, the actor portraying Ryan, drew a comparison to a scene in the prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin.” The first episode of “Original Sin” depicts Dexter and his sister Deb attending a house party. Later, Deb is found unconscious on a bed with a man attempting to remove her clothes. In response, Dexter tries to intervene, grabbing for a knife, but Deb prevents him from doing so.
Lillis commented, “I watched the premiere of ‘Original Sin’ and here are some observations I made.” “At a party, a man aggressively approaches Deb and Dexter pushes him down the stairs, showcasing his anger that Harry needs to manage. It’s reminiscent of the father-son dynamic, as similar flashes occur with Harrison. In the first episode of ‘Resurrection’, Harrison hasn’t been reined in yet, so Harry wants Dexter to locate Harrison to bring him under control.
In both “Dexter: Resurrection” and “Dexter: Original Sin”, the same creative team is in charge, with Clyde Phillips serving as the showrunner and writer of certain episodes, as well as Scott Reynolds in a producer and writer role. Whether it’s by chance or not, this shared leadership creates an interesting connection between Dexter and Harrison. It also offers a satisfying resolution for viewers who have followed all the different Dexter series.
In “Dexter: New Blood,” Harrison’s violent reaction towards Ryan seems to have been partially provoked by Kurt Caldwell’s actions against different women, causing him to act impulsively. This incident highlights a strong similarity between Dexter and Harrison, where they both instinctively feel compelled to safeguard those in peril, often finding themselves in potentially hazardous situations. As “Dexter: Resurrection” is planned for multiple seasons, it’s possible that more such parallels will emerge in the future.
Dexter: Resurrection” can now be streamed on Paramount+. How did you feel about Harrison’s initial, genuine kill? Share your thoughts below in the comments section.
