HBO Max recently offered a sneak peek at the upcoming Harry Potter series debuting in December, and it’s full of exciting details despite only being 30 minutes long. The special features audition footage of the actors who played the main trio, behind-the-scenes looks at the set design, and confirmation of a deleted scene involving Scabbers the rat that didn’t appear in the films. It also provides a closer look at some of the Hogwarts professors. The whole thing is designed to generate excitement, emphasizing the incredible amount of effort and expense that went into creating the series – it’s clearly a passion project.
The special doesn’t reveal any major surprises, but the tease of a scene with Scabbers and Goyle on the train is a fun moment. Fans on X (formerly Twitter) also think they spotted something even bigger: the first glimpse of Peeves the Poltergeist.
Here’s a first glimpse of Peeves from the upcoming HARRY POTTER TV series. The concept art is a little less vibrant than I expected, but it’s still early days! We’re eager to learn who has been cast to play him in the HBO show.

Peeves is One of the Harry Potter Reboot’s Most Exciting New Additions
Originally, the filmmakers planned to include Peeves, the mischievous poltergeist, in the first Harry Potter movie, The Sorcerer’s Stone, and even cast British comedian Rik Mayall in the role. However, the scenes with Peeves were ultimately cut, and no one has ever seen the footage. While the new Philosopher’s Stone series has largely set its cast, Peeves hasn’t been included yet—though he’d likely be played by a well-known comedic actor. Recently, concept art surfaced, and fans are wondering if one of the figures depicted is actually Peeves. It’s still unconfirmed, but the possibility is intriguing.
Peeves is known for his clothing, and while the artwork shows him wearing a hat and somewhat old-fashioned clothes, it doesn’t quite match how he’s described in the books. He’s supposed to wear bright, attention-grabbing outfits, including a hat covered in bells and an orange bow tie – his appearance is a big part of his mischievous personality. The artwork’s dull green colors feel more like something a forest sprite would wear, and don’t fit Peeves at all. So, while it’s exciting to imagine what Peeves might look like, this design doesn’t quite seem right.
Bringing Peeves back is a major win for the new series. Many characters were left out of the movies, but Peeves felt like the biggest omission. He provided a fun contrast to the Hogwarts ghosts, and his story arc—going from mischievous troublemaker to helping in the battle against Voldemort—was really well done. Since the series is trying to be different from the films—and some fans already think it’s too similar—including Peeves will really help it stand out, even if he’s bound to be irritating!
