Harry Potter season 2 gets fresh update from HBO boss following TV series’ record-breaking trailer

Ever since the first trailer for the new Harry Potter TV series came out last week, people are very excited about it, and now we have some news about what’s coming next.

The first season is scheduled to premiere on HBO Max around Christmas 2026, as shown in the trailer. Casey Bloys, head of HBO and Max Content, recently shared an update with The Times regarding season 2.

The trailer, released on March 25th, quickly gained over 277 million views organically, becoming the most popular trailer ever for HBO and HBO Max – twice as many views as any previous trailer.

Casey Bloys recently told TopMob that while more seasons of the main show are still in the works, there are no current plans to create spin-offs or expand the Harry Potter series into a larger connected universe.

The real creative potential lies in fully immersing ourselves in books, rather than being limited by the two-hour length of a film.

JK Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, has received criticism for her opinions on transgender rights. In 2020, she published a detailed essay explaining her views on sex and gender, which was challenged and refuted by LGBTQ+ organizations like Stonewall.

I’ve been really disheartened by some things J.K. Rowling has said online, particularly a post from earlier this year on what’s now called X. She expressed the view that the concept of transgender children isn’t valid, and that it’s inaccurate to say someone is born with a gender that doesn’t match their body. It’s a position I find deeply troubling and difficult to understand.

In May 2025, J.K. Rowling created the JK Rowling Women’s Fund, which provides financial support for legal battles aimed at protecting women’s rights as defined by biological sex.

The main actors from the Harry Potter films—Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson—have publicly disagreed with J.K. Rowling’s views and voiced their support for the transgender community. However, other cast members like Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter, and Jim Broadbent have come to Rowling’s defense amid recent criticism.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone arrives on HBO Max over Christmas 2026.
