Harry Potter’s New Hermione Breaks Silence on Reboot (& Confirms She’s Perfect for the Role)

HBO Max’s upcoming Harry Potter series may have found its Hermione Granger, as well as actors to play Harry and Ron. Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Standon have been cast in the lead roles. While these new actors have big shoes to fill, taking over from the original, much-loved cast, they seem like a good fit for their characters. The series faces the challenge of continuing a franchise that has been affected by controversies surrounding author J.K. Rowling, but early signs are promising.

Arabella Stanton recently spoke with the AP about her exciting opportunity to play Hermione Granger in two different projects: the new HBO Max series and a fresh audio recording of the entire Harry Potter book series. Stanton shared that she first discovered her love for the books at a young age. “I was eight years old when I started reading the first book,” she explained, “and I just continued through all seven. I’ve loved Harry Potter ever since!”

Stanton shared that she strongly identifies with Hermione, making her a natural fit for the role. She’s a passionate reader and writer, and finds that love of books is her biggest connection to the character. Like Hermione, who was always engrossed in books and the clever strategist of the group, Stanton has a deep appreciation for learning through reading.

When asked about filming the series and her fondness for the magical spells, the actress playfully responded as if she were Hermione, explaining she couldn’t share any secrets from the set. She said, “I’ve been put under a spell that prevents me from talking about it – a Mimblewimble, I think! – but filming has just started and it’s going really well.” This was fitting, as she’d previously mentioned how excited she was to hear the spells spoken during filming. Overall, it was a delightful interview offering fans a glimpse into the experience of one of the new cast members in the Harry Potter series.

The New Harry Potter Cast Has a Lot to Prove

The upcoming HBO Max Harry Potter series is generating a lot of discussion. Some fans are thrilled about the possibility of seeing storylines from the books that weren’t included in the films, while others are boycotting the show due to controversies surrounding J.K. Rowling. However, the series could be a big break for the three young lead actors, just as the original movies launched the careers of Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson. Among the new cast, Arabella Stanton seems particularly comfortable in interviews, likely because she has more acting experience than her co-stars.

Arabella Stanton has experience with fantastical roles, having previously played Matilda in the stage production of Matilda: The Musical. She seems to fully understand the character of Hermione – a smart, bookish witch who confidently displays her magical knowledge. If her performance lives up to the promise of her recent interviews, she’s likely to be a fantastic fit for the role, building on Emma Watson’s memorable portrayal.

Okay, so the new Harry Potter series coming to HBO Max in 2027 is really shaping up! We already knew about the fresh faces playing the younger generation, but now they’ve announced some incredible established actors joining them. John Lithgow is taking on the role of Albus Dumbledore, and I think he’ll absolutely nail it. Janet McTeer will be Professor McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu is stepping into Snape’s shoes, and Nick Frost? He’s Hagrid! It’s fantastic to see Warwick Davis returning as Filius Flitwick – he’s a real link to the original films and it’s great to have a familiar face.
