Harry Potter’s Remake Reveals a Hidden Wizard Scene & Can Clear Up Confusion After 30 Years

With production underway on HBO’s new Harry Potter TV series, more details about the reimagining are being revealed. We’ve already gotten glimpses of various scenes, including a day in the life of Vernon Dursley, a conversation between Albus Dumbledore and Nicolas Flamel, and what appears to be the attack on Harry’s parents in Godric’s Hollow. While we haven’t seen much of Harry himself – likely because most Hogwarts scenes are being filmed indoors at Leavesden Studios – the photos and videos released so far offer a fascinating look at the upcoming series.

The latest glimpse of the series features a wizard standing on a rooftop with his wand raised. This scene is unique – it doesn’t appear exactly as shown in either the Harry Potter books or films. However, it likely references a specific event. As noted by Wizarding World Direct, the wizard is probably Dedalus Diggle, who, according to Professor McGonagall, was once thought to have caused a shower of shooting stars over Kent.

A video has given us a glimpse of yesterday’s filming location in Skipton for the new Harry Potter TV series. The video appears to feature a line spoken by Minerva McGonagall: “Shooting stars down in Kent. I’ll bet that was Dedalus Diggle. He never had much sense.” It seems likely this scene…

The simplest explanation for seeing a wizard alone on a rooftop at night is that he’s not with anyone else—or maybe everyone else is invisible. This helps solve a long-standing question about whether the wizard Vernon Dursey meets is actually Dedalus, as both characters are described wearing purple. Earlier rumors about the new movie also suggested they were the same person. However, this scene—and the previous one showing Vernon at work—clearly establishes that they are two different wizards.

This Wizard Scene Has Greater Importance For The Harry Potter Remake

Diggle isn’t a major character in the Harry Potter series, but he does play a small role. He was part of the Order of the Phoenix and assisted the Dursleys in leaving their home. However, the important thing about this scene isn’t his appearance, but the fact that the new versions of the story are adding details not found in the original books and films.

The show includes scenes that weren’t directly shown in the books, like Dumbledore’s meeting with Flamel. However, these additions are inspired by hints and details found within the original story. The TV format allows the show to explore these smaller moments and expand on side stories in a way the movies couldn’t, building a richer world without making major changes that fans would dislike.

I’m really getting a clearer idea of what the first episode will be like, and I’m so excited! It sounds like we’ll actually see part of Voldemort’s attack on James and Lily Potter, which is huge. Then, we’ll get a glimpse of what a normal day looks like for Vernon Dursley while the magical community is celebrating Voldemort’s defeat – including a moment with Dedalus Diggle, it seems! And we’ll see baby Harry being left at Privet Drive, setting the stage for the story we all know. The original movie skipped over so much of this important stuff, so it’s incredibly promising to see the remake taking the time to build that world more fully. It feels like it will add so much depth!

The Harry Potter remake is expected to release on HBO and HBO Max in 2027.
