The upcoming HBO series based on Harry Potter aims to create a more expansive and detailed version of Hogwarts than we’ve seen before. A key goal of this new adaptation is to offer something fresh while also staying true to the books. While differentiating itself from the existing movies is important, the series isn’t just replicating the source material; it’s actively building upon the stories and adding new elements beyond what was originally written.
HBO recently gave social media influencers a preview of the Harry Potter TV set, and some interesting details have come to light. According to Instagram user @janariva, the show will feature a scene inside the Gryffindor girls’ dormitory with Hermione Granger – a location never before seen in either the books or the movies.
In the novels, Harry and Ron tried to visit Hermione, but the school had a clever defense. The stairs magically transformed into a slide, sending them back to their Common Room before they could reach her.
The Harry Potter TV Show’s Hogwarts Expansion Is A Good Thing
Showing Hermione in the Gryffindor girls’ dorm and at home when she receives her Hogwarts letter makes sense. The TV series needs extra scenes to fill the longer runtime and to give viewers a look at characters beyond Harry. This helps develop the other members of the main trio and gives them more depth.
We’ve known for a while the story would expand beyond Harry’s perspective, like the scenes at Malfoy Manor. This continues that trend, now extending to Hogwarts as well. We’ll see more of the castle, including the professors’ private rooms, which really brings the original material to life.
The TV series will expand on the Harry Potter world by including characters and scenes that didn’t make it into the films. A major addition is Peeves the Poltergeist, a mischievous spirit who was originally cast with Rik Mayall for the first movie but ultimately cut. Casting for the series hasn’t been announced yet, but whoever takes on the role will have a lot to live up to! Another ghostly figure confirmed to appear is Professor Binns, meaning viewers will finally see History of Magic lessons – hopefully, they’ll be more engaging to watch than they are for the students!
What really makes the books special is how Hogwarts feels like a character itself. Readers love being immersed in that magical world and experiencing school life there – something the movies didn’t fully capture. It looks like the new remake is focusing more on bringing that feeling to life.
Harry Potter’s TV remake is expected to release on HBO and HBO Max sometime in 2027.
