Anything is possible in Harry Styles’ house—and his Saturday Night Live appearance.
The Grammy-winning artist, who hosted and performed on Saturday Night Live on March 14th, responded to rumors about his personal life by kissing cast member Ben Marshall on the show.
Harry, now 32, reflected on his early solo work, jokingly referring to his songs as being filled with suggestive metaphors disguised as references to fruit. He also mentioned that during that time, people focused heavily on his fashion choices and some even accused him of ‘queerbaiting’ – a term he addressed in his opening remarks.
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, ‘queerbaiting’ is deceptively trying to attract LGBTQ+ audiences for profit. However, the former One Direction member never intended to do that.
He said with a laugh, “Have you ever considered that you might not know everything about me, Dad?”
Harry Styles recently explained the story behind his album title, “Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally.” He jokingly said he found the phrase by asking ChatGPT for “the most Italian phrase ever,” but clarified that he’s actually quite selective about who he kisses.
Harry playfully asked, “What’s better than kissing all the time?” Just then, SNL star Chloe Fineman popped up behind him on stage. He quickly clarified, “I don’t actually do that – I definitely don’t want to kiss all the time!”
Taking it as a sign of the times, Chloe exited the stage with a disappointed look.

You know, Harry was right – kissing can be amazing! He said it himself, right as Sarah Sherman from the Chloe cast came out. He added that it really comes down to being skilled and a genuinely good person. It’s a sweet thought, honestly – it’s not just about the technique, but who you are when you’re doing it.
Feeling she wasn’t what he was looking for, Sarah left the stage to allow the next contestant – someone the singer complimented for having a nice physique – to come forward. Just then, Ben walked onstage to enthusiastic applause from the crowd.
“Hey Ben, what are you doing up here?” Harry asked. Ben responded with a playful challenge, “You told me I had a nice rear end… so where’s my reward?”
Despite initially teasing Ben about his height, Harry eventually gave in to his charm, saying, “Whatever, come here,” and then kissed him.
Harry then turned to the camera and said with a wink, “Now that’s queerbaiting.”
For a look at Harry’s most interesting fun facts, ready, steady, read on…

Harry Styles was born on February 1st, 1994, in Evesham, Worcestershire, to parents Anne Cox and Desmond Styles. He grew up with an older sister, Gemma, who was born in 1990.
The family settled in Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, when he was very young, and his mother, Anne, recalls his first word being “cat.”
Styles described his hometown, a village of around 5,000 people, as both “quite boring” and “picturesque.”

In his memoir, Dare to Dream, Harry remembered being unusually upset—he rarely cried—when his parents told him and his sister, Gemma, that they were getting divorced. He was just seven years old at the time.
He admitted he hadn’t fully understood the situation at the time, but he was simply upset about his parents’ separation.
Des and Anne shared a home for two more years before Des moved out and Anne relocated with Harry and Gemma to the rural area of Northwich, Cheshire. Later, when Harry was a teenager, the family returned to live in Holmes Chapel.
Anne and Robin Twist got married in 2013 after being a couple for more than ten years. Their son, Harry, proudly walked his mother down the aisle and served as best man at the wedding.

Everyone agreed Harry was a lively, imaginative child who loved being the center of attention and performing – he’d happily sing or even playfully run through a train station! He thrived in school plays, and the classic rock music he shared with his dad, like Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Queen, greatly influenced his own musical preferences.
Louisa Jepson’s 2013 biography, Harry Styles—Every Piece of Me, reveals that Harry’s first recording was of Elvis Presley’s “The Girl of My Best Friend,” made on a karaoke machine his grandfather gave him. As he grew up, he also became a fan of bands like Coldplay and artists such as John Mayer and Noel Gallagher.
Harry started playing music in a band around age 14. He originally wanted to play bass, but since another member already did, he became the singer instead. The band, called White Eskimo, won their school’s Battle of the Bands, earning a £100 prize and their first paying job – performing at a wedding.
Anne shared with Now magazine in 2010 that her son has always been confident and outgoing. She remembered that he’s been making people happy since childhood and always predicted he’d have a career performing.

Harry earned a little extra scratch—£6 an hour—working at W. Mandeville bakery on Saturdays.
Simon Wakefield, his former boss, told the Mirror in 2013 that he was the politest employee they’d ever had. Wakefield said customers particularly liked Styles when he came back to the shop to film parts of the movie One Direction: This Is Us.
Wakefield explained that the shop became popular with young girls when Harry worked there – sometimes as many as twelve would come in at once. Even now, groups of around twenty girls often visit and take pictures. Harry was a dedicated employee, responsible for everything from serving customers and cleaning the back room to scrubbing floors, washing trays, and wiping down the counter.

Anne was the one who ended up sending Harry’s X Factor application in when he got cold feet.
When auditioning for The X Factor in spring 2010, the 16-year-old confidently stated that people – usually his mum – told him he had a good voice. He performed Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely” without any musical accompaniment. He explained that singing was his passion, and if the people who could help him achieve his dream disagreed, it would be a significant obstacle.
Harry didn’t advance to the final or even the second-to-last round of the boys’ group, but the show’s producers decided to keep him involved.
Simon Cowell and guest judge Nicole Scherzinger – who was standing in for Cheryl Cole – decided to put Harry together with other hopeful solo performers: Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson. This ultimately led to the formation of a group.
In the 2013 documentary One Direction: Going Our Way, Nicole Scherzinger playfully admits to being a key, though often unacknowledged, part of the group’s success. Meanwhile, judge Louis Walsh famously failed to recognize Harry Styles’ potential.
It was Harry, however, who came up with the group’s name.
He remembered thinking the name sounded good when they were brainstorming. They tossed around a few ideas, but he couldn’t quite recall how it ultimately landed on the chosen name. He simply suggested it, and everyone agreed, and it just stuck.
Zayn explained on Phoenix’s Hot 97.5 FM in 2012 that the band initially brainstormed a bunch of potential names. Harry suggested the name they eventually chose – he simply texted it to the group, and they all agreed it worked. Apparently, Liam came up with some pretty terrible suggestions too. Zayn also remembered another idea floated around, an acronym standing for ‘Unique Selling Point’.

In October 2010, One Direction hit the X Factor stage live for the first time.
Anne, Harry’s mother, told Now magazine that she’s very proud of him and that he’s behaving on the show just as he does at home. She described him as a genuinely lovely young man.
When Harry went to the X Factor house, I told him, ‘Stay yourself, Harry, and don’t become someone unpleasant. Remember, fame won’t change the fact you still have chores to do when you get back home, like emptying the dishwasher.’
Despite being naturally gifted for performing, Harry began experiencing panic attacks before each live show, according to Alice Montgomery’s biography, Harry. He once even vomited in the hallway backstage. Eventually, he found that drinking sparkling water and practicing deep breathing helped calm his nerves.

Despite their later success, One Direction didn’t win The X Factor in 2010. They finished in third place, with Matt Cardle winning the competition and Rebecca Ferguson coming in second.

Harry recalled his primary school days, telling biographer Louisa Jepson that he had friends of both genders. He wasn’t like some boys who avoided girls, and he generally got along with everyone.
According to his White Eskimo bandmate, Will Sweeny, Harry Styles was surprisingly popular with girls even when he was very young. Sweeny told the Daily Star that Harry had several girlfriends starting around age ten, and always seemed to have a natural charm that attracted them. He described it as amusing and said Harry had ‘an unbelievable way with girls’ throughout his life.
Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe what Louis once said! He was talking to The Sun and, honestly, it was hilarious. He said the only downside to living with Harry was the never-ending parade of girls coming and going! He was like, ‘It’s relentless!’ I mean, can you imagine?! Though, I guess Louis had to be a little patient, since he was with Eleanor at the time. Still, Harry! Always the heartthrob, even back then. It’s just… everything about them is perfect!
You know, as a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen a lot of relationships, and I can tell you, Jepson’s dad, Desmond, was pretty confident in his son’s loyalty. He assured Jepson that when his son really cared about someone, he was completely devoted – a one-woman man, through and through.
Harry has always prioritized safety, especially when it comes to intimacy. He shared with OK! magazine in 2012 that he was worried about getting someone pregnant the first time he had sex, even though they had used protection. Thankfully, everything was okay, and he emphasized that not using protection is irresponsible and selfish.

Following One Direction’s win on The X Factor in 2011, Harry publicly expressed interest in two women: 22-year-old Frankie Bridge from the group The Saturdays, and 31-year-old Caroline Flack, who hosted The Xtra Factor, the companion show to The X Factor.
He confessed to having a childhood crush on Frankie Bridge, saying he’s been in love with her since he was around eight years old when she was in S Club Juniors. He even admitted to having posters of her and expressed a desire to kiss her. He also shared that both Frankie and Caroline Flack are his celebrity crushes, calling them both attractive. Later, he posted on The X Factor website, hoping Caroline Flack would see his message and say hello, calling her gorgeous.
Harry and Caroline first met in October 2011 at an after-party for a show at London’s W Hotel, and they left together. However, according to Alice Montgomery, nothing significant happened between them that evening.
In her 2015 memoir, Storm in a C Cup, Caroline Flack described how she and her partner got along well and enjoyed each other’s company when they first started dating. She explained that things only became difficult once their relationship became public. Initially, it was lighthearted, and he had even playfully mentioned being attracted to older women.
Despite claims that she and Harry Styles were just friends, fans of the band One Direction strongly expressed their possessiveness over him. This led Caroline Flack to tweet that she and Harry were close friends and that he was a kind person, but she didn’t deserve the death threats she was receiving.
“Flack off, Caroline,” read a banner on display at a 1D concert.
The 14-year age difference between them continued to draw criticism from both the public and media. Caroline Flack expressed her confusion in an interview with Now magazine, saying, “I struggle to understand why people find it so shocking. I don’t think it is. It’s strange that some people immediately focus on the negative. If two people connect and are happy, why does anyone else need to see a problem with that?”
As One Direction was becoming incredibly famous worldwide, Harry and Taylor secretly stopped dating around early 2012.

In a 2012 episode of iCarly, the band One Direction made an appearance. During the show, Harry accidentally gets sick – he calls it “jungle worms” – after sharing a water bottle with Carly, who had recently been warned by a doctor that she was still contagious. Even after recovering, Harry pretends to still be sick, hoping Carly will continue to care for him.
After recovering, Harry was well enough for One Direction to perform their hit song, “That’s What Makes You Beautiful.”
This funny moment has become a lasting piece of internet history, preserved in videos on YouTube and shared through tweets. For example, a tweet from 2013 revealed that Harry Styles turned down a kiss from Miranda Cosgrove in the original script for One Direction’s appearance on the show iCarly.

Back in 2012, after Taylor Swift and Harry Styles met at the Kids’ Choice Awards, Justin Bieber told the Daily Mirror that a very famous artist had already told him how attractive Harry was, but he wasn’t allowed to reveal who said it.
That summer, Harry told Seventeen that Taylor Swift was both incredibly talented and genuinely kind. He said, “She really is one of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet.”
Their romance wasn’t expected to last, but Taylor was there when One Direction played Madison Square Garden for the first time that December—a show where Harry was playfully showered with bras, underwear, and even an iPhone. For a few bright months, they were the biggest pop couple, going on public dates in Central Park, a quick trip to Harry’s hometown of Northwich, and ultimately, a disappointing Caribbean vacation that left Taylor feeling isolated.
Looking back at pictures from that date, Styles told Rolling Stone in 2017 that he realized relationships are challenging no matter how old you are. He added that being 18 and figuring things out made it even harder. He explained that it should have been a simple date with someone he liked, but it was a bit awkward, and ultimately a learning experience. What he really wanted was for it to feel normal.
Harry Styles discussed Taylor Swift’s songs thought to be inspired by their relationship, like “Out of the Woods” and “Style.” He said he feels fortunate that their experiences contributed to those songs, because those are the deeply personal and difficult emotions that truly resonate with listeners. He admitted he rarely talks about those intimate details, as they belong to both him and the other person, and he intends to keep those stories private.
Asked if he had anything to tell Swift, he mused, “Certain things don’t work out. There’s a lot of things that can be right, and it’s still wrong. In writing songs about stuff like that, I like tipping a hat to the
time together.

Harry likes snowboarding.
In January 2014, a source told TopMob News that Harry and Kendall Jenner seemed to be enjoying each other’s company after they were seen together in Mammoth Lakes. Kendall herself described Harry as “cool” and a “friend” at the American Music Awards the previous November.

Harry also likes swimming.
That marked the beginning of a complicated friendship between Styles and Jenner, spanning several years and taking them to places like Southern California, Anguilla, and St. Barts. It was often unclear if they were just friends or something more.
Harry Styles hinted in a 2017 interview with Rolling Stone that a relationship after his one with Taylor Swift—possibly with Kendall Jenner—heavily influenced his album. He explained he sometimes subtly references people in his music, and other times makes the connection very obvious, hoping the intended person will recognize it’s about them.

Any photos circulating over the years that seemed to show Harry and Louis – or “Larry,” as fans nicknamed them – kissing were not real.
Harry Styles clarified on Australian television show Sunrise that a photo of him and Louis Tomlinson appearing to kiss was altered. He explained that the original picture actually included another woman in the shot.
Louis explained that this had happened to him and Niall too. He described how, when someone is being targeted, others will often isolate them. He thought it was a surprisingly effective tactic.

Harry first brought up the idea of One Direction taking a break back in 2014, while they were recording in a London studio – a setting reminiscent of the Beatles.
He explained to Rolling Stone that they didn’t want to overwork their fans. While it would have been easy to just keep touring, the band members felt that would be a mistake. They valued their fans and their own reputation too much to risk wearing everyone out and losing people’s support.

Zayn’s friends supported his decision, and he took the first step in leaving the group in March 2015. This came after a period where he was dealing with anxiety and problems in his relationship with Perrie Edwards, fueled by tabloid rumors of infidelity.
After Zayn Malik left One Direction, the remaining members announced in August 2015 that the band would be taking a break. Their final concert was held on October 31st, 2015, at Sheffield Arena in Britain, marking a sad end for their devoted fans.

After Zayn Malik said One Direction’s songs weren’t very cool – specifically, that he wouldn’t put them on while having dinner with someone he was trying to impress – Harry responded with tact and avoided any conflict.
Styles told Rolling Stone that while he was saddened by the other person’s feelings, he always wants the best for people pursuing their passions.
If you’re unhappy with what you’re doing, it’s perfectly okay to switch to something else. I’m happy for him that he’s pursuing his passions, and I wish him all the best.

He explained to Rolling Stone that he didn’t want to just write fictional stories for his first solo album, aptly named Harry Styles. He wanted to share his personal experiences – the things that had actually happened to him. His main goal was to be truthful, something he hadn’t prioritized in his music before.
That being said, the game was on when it came to figuring out what, or who, he was singing about.
Harry explained that he deliberately keeps his personal life and work separate. He believes this helps him maintain balance and stay grounded. He doesn’t do it to create a persona or prolong his career; he simply wants to be himself, both at work and at home. He feels it’s important to have boundaries and enjoys switching between his professional and personal life; he finds it incredibly fulfilling.

The songwriter explained to Rolling Stone that the song is told from the perspective of a mother experiencing a difficult childbirth. She’s told her baby will be okay, but she doesn’t have much time left to live—just five minutes to tell her child to go out and achieve great things.

Okay, seriously, Harry Styles’ hair is just… everything. It looks amazing no matter what he does with it! I remember reading this article in British Vogue about what was on his dressing table before a show in Paris, and it was INSANE. They actually counted seven different hair products! Seven! And that’s not even all – he had Tom Ford perfume, a Diptyque candle, and this fancy Sunday Riley face oil too. It just proves how much effort he puts into looking incredible. I need to know his routine!
Vogue beauty editor Lisa Niven jokingly observed that Harry seems to have the self-care routine of a professional beauty editor, praising his choice of Ouai hair products and especially the Sunday Riley oil. She added with a smile, ‘Who wouldn’t request a Diptyque candle with their hospitality requests?’
Only a few million people noticed he’d gotten a haircut before he started actively promoting his music again.
He told Vogue he initially felt vulnerable after deciding to shave his head. He explained it wasn’t a difficult choice, and the hair was ultimately used to create a wig.

Harry actually has six nipples – the usual two, plus an extra two smaller ones right underneath them.

When Harry Styles was in One Direction, he was known for his casual style – tight pants and a wrinkled T-shirt. Since then, he’s embraced a much bolder fashion sense, often wearing sharply tailored suits, stylish slacks with jackets, and has even modeled for Gucci in two advertising campaigns.
Harry Styles shared with Entertainment Tonight that Shania Twain was a major inspiration for both his music and his style. He simply described her as ‘amazing’.
Wait, what?
Growing up, my mom, Anne, loved listening to Shania Twain, Norah Jones, and Savage Garden, especially in the ’90s. Meanwhile, my dad, Des, was teaching me all about rock and roll at home.

Harry balanced pursuing his music with acting, and in July 2017, he appeared in his first film: Christopher Nolan’s epic war movie, Dunkirk. The film was a critical success, receiving eight Academy Award nominations and winning three.
Harry Styles said that auditioning for Christopher Nolan was more challenging than auditioning for Simon Cowell. He explained on ITV’s This Morning that Nolan is very reserved—he doesn’t offer any feedback during auditions, simply observing from the back of the room. Styles described the experience as intensely nerve-wracking, leading to a lot of post-audition self-doubt.
At least he could rest assured that Nolan wasn’t giving him special treatment.
Honestly, I didn’t fully grasp just how well-known Harry was at the time. My kids mentioned him now and then, but it didn’t really register with me. That’s why I chose him – he simply was the best person for the role and absolutely proved he deserved to be there. It wasn’t about fame at all; it was about talent.
Styles admitted that walking onto the set of a big-budget war epic was a bit intimidating at first.
He was immediately struck by how large the production was,” he said to The Big Issue. “Walking onto set the first day is really overwhelming. And since it was his first film, he had to quickly learn how to manage everything—and even stay afloat, in a literal sense.
One particularly intense scene involved Harry Styles’ character, Alex, nearly drowning. Styles told USA Today that being in the water and acting out the scene made it feel very real, as he was genuinely aware of his limited breath. He recalled that the production team questioned his swimming ability the day before filming began in France, and the shoot involved a lot of extended swimming – to the point they seemed to be testing how long he could stay afloat.

And…he’s funny, too.
In 2017, Harry Styles was everywhere promoting his music, but he also proved to be a natural host when he filled in for James Corden on The Late, Late Show – even nailing the American-style political comedy. He returned to host again in 2019. Interestingly, years earlier while looking for a house in Hampstead Heath, Harry lived with Late, Late Show executive producer Ben Winston and his wife, Meredith, for nearly two years, sleeping on a mattress in their attic.
He was away a lot, being a major pop star, but still.
Styles admitted to being too intimidated by Meredith to ever bring dates home. However, Winston recalled that Styles wasn’t always solitary, and it was fun to see the famous people who would stay in the attic or hang out with them. They never talked shop, and Styles would act like his recent performances for crowds of 80,000 in Rio de Janeiro hadn’t even happened.
In 2017, while performing as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live with host Jimmy Fallon, Harry Styles playfully impersonated Mick Jagger. Then, in July 2018, he jokingly told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show that he’d love to host the show himself. Fallon pretended to faint, and Harry playfully took over as host, comfortably sitting behind the desk.
Styles returned to SNL as host and musical guest in 2019 and crushed it.

CBS’s show Happy Together, which marked Harry Styles’ debut as an executive producer on American network television, was not renewed after airing its first season of 13 episodes.

After his first solo tour ended in July 2018, with nearly 1 million tickets sold across 89 shows, over $1.2 million was donated to charities. This included a portion of the tour’s profits, as well as contributions from Live Nation and the GLSEN PRIDE campaign.

Harry Styles’ career soared after he won his first Grammy in 2021 for “Watermelon Sugar,” earning him the Best Pop Solo Performance award. He continued his success two years later with his album Harry’s House, winning two Grammys in a row, including the prestigious Album of the Year. When accepting the Album of the Year award, he humbly shared, “This is so, so nice, and it doesn’t happen to people like me very often.”

Harry’s accomplishments go beyond his Grammy win. In 2020, he made history as the first solo male artist to appear on the cover of Vogue magazine.

Harry also writes songs for other artists. Besides his own music, he co-wrote Ariana Grande’s popular song “Just a Little bit of Your Heart,” and the track “Someday” by Meghan Trainor and Michael Bublé.

Most people know Harry Styles as a singer and actor – he even appeared in Olivia Wilde’s film, Don’t Worry Darling. But he considered other career paths too. In a 2020 interview with Ellen DeGeneres, he revealed he’d love to be a florist if he wasn’t a musician.
He also thought about becoming a physiotherapist. On BBC Radio 2’s The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show in 2020, he explained he wanted to be a physio after realizing he wasn’t skilled enough to be a footballer. However, he was told there weren’t many job opportunities in physiotherapy, so he pursued music instead.
