Harry Styles Teases Family Plans As Zoë Kravitz Romance Heats Up

Harry Styles’ life may be heading in a new direction.

Now that he’s 32, he’s been giving a lot of thought to his future and what steps he needs to take to achieve his goals.

Honestly, hearing him talk to Zane Lowe just got me. He was saying how he finally had a moment to just… breathe, and really look at his life. Like, what does he actually want? It’s so true, though! He’s surrounded by everything all the time, it’s impossible to figure out what really matters unless you clear everything away first. He said stopping everything lets you choose what you want to keep, and that just… resonated with me, you know?

Harry recently put his career on pause in 2023, likely because he was focused on releasing new music and preparing for an upcoming tour.

He explained that constantly touring and working leaves little room for making deliberate choices. He realized he needed to honestly assess what he wanted his life to be like in five years and then make changes to achieve that vision.

It hit me so hard when he said it – he doesn’t want fame or fortune, he just wants to feel complete. He wants real connections, amazing friends, a family… the whole beautiful life! And it wasn’t a wish, it was a realization. He finally understood he couldn’t just wait for those things to fall into his lap. He had to actively make space for them, you know? It was like a lightbulb moment, and honestly, it made me love him even more. He’s not chasing anything superficial, he’s chasing happiness.

Now that he’s focusing on his goals, the former One Direction member—who is dating Zoë Kravitz—also understands how important it is to choose the right people to surround himself with.

He explained that choosing the right person means finding someone who encourages you to become your best self. While understanding flaws is good, he appreciates being challenged to improve. He sees constructive criticism not as a negative thing, but as a helpful gift that motivates him to grow.

Seeing his close friends find love and get married was a big inspiration for this song, which he explores in his new track, “American Girls.”

Harry was deeply touched by witnessing the couple’s willingness to believe in something and take a chance on finding real happiness, which he found more meaningful than simply seeing them get married.

As he put it, “There just is a magic when you find the right person that you want to be with.”

For more insight into Harry’s inner world, read on.

Harry Styles was born on February 1st, 1994, in Evesham, Worcestershire, to parents Anne Cox and Desmond Styles. He grew up with an older sister, Gemma, who was born in 1990.

Oh my gosh, can you believe it? He grew up in the sweetest little place, Holmes Chapel in Cheshire! And his first word? It was ‘cat’! Can you even handle that level of adorable? It just proves he was always destined for greatness – a total animal lover from day one! I knew it, I knew it!

Styles described his hometown, a village of around 5,000 residents, as both “quite boring” and “picturesque.”

In his memoir, Dare to Dream, Harry remembered being unusually upset—he rarely cried—when his parents told him and his sister, Gemma, that they were getting divorced. He was seven years old at the time.

Looking back, I totally didn’t understand everything that was happening, I was just heartbroken that my parents were splitting up. It was all a blur of sadness, honestly. I just wanted them to fix things, and I couldn’t process anything else.

Des and Anne remained together for two more years before Des left, and Anne relocated with Harry and Gemma to Northwich, a rural area in Cheshire. Later, when Harry was a teenager, the family returned to live in Holmes Chapel.

Anne and Robin Twist got married in 2013 after being a couple for more than ten years. Her son, Harry, proudly walked her down the aisle and served as best man at the wedding.

Everyone agreed Harry was a lively, imaginative child and a natural performer. He loved being the center of attention, whether it was through singing or playfully running around in public. He thrived in school plays, and the classic rock music he shared with his dad – artists like Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Queen – greatly influenced his own musical preferences.

Louisa Jepson’s 2013 biography, Harry Styles—Every Piece of Me, reveals that Harry’s first recording was of Elvis Presley’s “The Girl of My Best Friend,” made on a karaoke machine his grandfather gave him. As he grew up, he also became a fan of bands like Coldplay, and artists such as John Mayer and Noel Gallagher.

Harry started playing music in a band around age 14. He originally wanted to play bass, but since another member already filled that role, he became the singer. The band, called White Eskimo, won their school’s Battle of the Bands, earning a £100 prize and their first paying job – performing at a wedding.

Anne told Now magazine in 2010 that her son has always been confident. She said he’s been making people happy since childhood, and she always believed he’d become a performer.

Harry earned a little extra scratch—£6 an hour—working at W. Mandeville bakery on Saturdays.

Oh my gosh, I read this interview with his old boss, Simon Wakefield, back in 2013 when they were filming One Direction: This Is Us at the shop where Harry used to work! Simon said Harry was the nicest employee they ever had, seriously! He said customers absolutely loved him – everyone just instantly connected with him, you know? It just proves what I’ve always known – he’s just naturally charming and kind!

Wakefield explained that the shop became popular with girls when Harry worked there – they’d often come in groups, sometimes as many as twelve at a time. Even today, groups of around twenty girls visit and take pictures of the shop. Harry was a dedicated employee, responsible for everything from serving customers and cleaning the back room to scrubbing floors, washing trays, and keeping the counter tidy.

Anne was the one who ended up sending Harry’s X Factor application in when he got cold feet.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve always said it’s important to follow your passion, and that’s exactly what this young 16-year-old showed when he auditioned for The X Factor back in 2010. He told the judges – and, let’s be honest, his mum was his first fan! – that singing was his dream. He even performed an a cappella version of Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely” to prove it. He was very clear: if the people who could help him achieve that dream didn’t believe in him, it would be a real blow to his plans. It really highlighted the importance of self-belief and pursuing what you love, even when facing potential rejection.

Harry didn’t advance to the final or even the second-to-last round for the boys, but the show’s producers decided to keep him involved.

It was a pivotal moment when Simon Cowell and guest judge Nicole Scherzinger – who was standing in for Cheryl Cole – decided to put Harry with other hopeful solo performers: Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson.

In the 2013 documentary One Direction: Going Our Way, Nicole Scherzinger jokingly admits to playing a key, though often unacknowledged, role in the band’s success. Meanwhile, fellow judge Louis Walsh famously failed to recognize Harry Styles’ potential.

It was Harry, however, who came up with the group’s name.

He remembered telling CBS Sunday Morning in 2017 that the name just sounded right. They had tossed around a few ideas, but he couldn’t quite recall how it ended up being chosen. He simply suggested it, and everyone agreed, so it stuck.

Zayn explained on Phoenix’s Hot 97.5 FM in 2012 that the band initially brainstormed a bunch of potential names. Harry suggested the name they ultimately chose, simply texting it to the group who all agreed it worked. Apparently, Liam had some pretty awkward suggestions, and one idea they considered was the acronym USP, which stood for Unique Selling Point.

In October 2010, One Direction hit the X Factor stage live for the first time.

Even though I’m his mother, Harry is a genuinely kind person, and he’s behaving on the show just as he does at home,” Anne told Now magazine.

When Harry went to the X Factor house, I told him, ‘Just be yourself, Harry, and don’t become someone you’re not. Remember, you’ll still have chores to do when you get back home, like emptying the dishwasher.’

Despite being naturally suited for performing, Harry began experiencing panic attacks before each live show, according to Alice Montgomery’s biography, Harry. He once even vomited in the hallway beforehand. Eventually, he found that drinking sparkling water and practicing deep breathing helped him calm down before going on stage.

Despite their later success, One Direction didn’t win The X Factor in 2010. They finished in third place, with Matt Cardle winning the seventh series and Rebecca Ferguson coming in second.

Oh my gosh, you guys, Harry once told biographer Louisa Jepson about his school days, and it was SO sweet! He said he was friends with everyone – girls and boys alike! He wasn’t like those boys who used to tease girls or think they were gross. He genuinely liked and was friends with all of them! It just proves how kind and open-minded he’s always been, doesn’t it?! I’m obsessed!

According to his White Eskimo bandmate, Will Sweeny, Harry Styles was surprisingly popular with girls even when he was very young. Sweeny told the Daily Star that Harry had several girlfriends starting around age 10, and always seemed to have a natural charm that attracted them. He described it as amusing and said Harry had a way with girls throughout his life.

Louis Tomlinson jokingly complained to The Sun that the biggest issue with living with Harry was the endless parade of women coming and going. He said it was “relentless.” Of course, Louis was dating Eleanor Calder at the time, so he was likely teasing Harry a little.

However, Jepson’s dad, Desmond, reassured him that when his son truly cared for someone, he was completely devoted to that one woman.

Harry has always prioritized safety, especially when it comes to intimacy. He recalled being worried about a potential pregnancy the first time he had sex, even though they had taken precautions. Thankfully, everything was okay. He believes it’s irresponsible to assume everything will be alright without proper protection.

Following One Direction’s win on The X Factor in 2011, Harry Styles publicly expressed interest in both 22-year-old Frankie Bridge from The Saturdays and Caroline Flack, who was 31 and hosted The Xtra Factor, the X Factor spin-off show.

He confessed to having a long-time crush on Frankie Bridge, dating back to when she was in S Club Juniors as an eight-year-old. He even used to put up posters of her and admitted he’d love to kiss her. He also mentioned Frankie and Caroline Flack were his celebrity crushes, calling them both attractive. After the interview, he posted on The X Factor website, hoping Caroline Flack would see his message and say hello, describing her as gorgeous.

I remember when Harry and Caroline first met – it was back in October 2011 at an after-party at the W Hotel in London. They actually left the party together, but my friend Alice Montgomery has always said nothing significant happened between them that night!

In her 2015 memoir, Storm in a C Cup, Caroline Flack explained that she and her partner got along well and enjoyed each other’s company when they first started dating. However, she wrote that things became difficult once their relationship became public. Initially, it was lighthearted, and he had even playfully joked about liking older women.

Despite claims that she and Harry Styles were just friends, fans of the band One Direction strongly expressed their disapproval, leading Caroline Flack to publicly state their close friendship and express her distress at receiving death threats because of the situation.

“Flack off, Caroline,” read a banner on display at a 1D concert.

The 14-year age difference between them continued to draw criticism from both the public and the media. Caroline Flack explained to Now magazine that she didn’t understand the negativity. “I struggle with people calling it disgusting,” she said. “I don’t see it that way. It’s strange to me that some people immediately focus on the negative. If two people connect and are happy, why does it bother anyone else?”

As One Direction began to achieve global fame, they secretly stopped dating each other in early 2012.

In 2012, Harry Styles and the rest of One Direction appeared on an episode of iCarly. The band was scheduled to perform as themselves, but Harry jokingly pretends to catch “jungle worms” after drinking from Carly’s water bottle—right after a doctor tells her she might still be contagious and shouldn’t kiss anyone. Even when he’s feeling better, Harry pretends to still be sick to get Carly to continue caring for him.

After recovering, Harry was able to join One Direction in performing their hit song, “That’s What Makes You Beautiful.”

This funny moment has lived on online, famously resurfacing in a 2013 tweet. It claimed that Harry Styles didn’t want to kiss Miranda Cosgrove in the One Direction episode of the show iCarly.

I remember back in 2012, right after Taylor and Harry met at the Kids’ Choice Awards, Justin Bieber let slip something amazing! He told the Daily Mirror that one of the world’s biggest artists had told him how attractive Harry Styles was, but he was sworn to secrecy and wouldn’t reveal who said it. It was such a tease!

That summer, Harry told Seventeen magazine that Taylor Swift was both incredibly talented and a genuinely kind person. He said she was ‘honestly, one of the sweetest people’ he knew.

Their romance wasn’t expected to last, but Taylor was at One Direction’s first concert at Madison Square Garden that December – a show where Harry was playfully showered with bras, underwear, and even an iPhone. For a short time, they were the biggest pop couple, enjoying dates in Central Park, a quick trip to Harry’s hometown, and a disastrous Caribbean vacation that ultimately left Taylor feeling isolated.

Reflecting on their date in New York City, Styles told Rolling Stone in 2017 that relationships are challenging no matter how old you are. He explained that being 18 and figuring things out made it even harder. He thought, ‘It should be simple—just a date with someone you like.’ He admitted to feeling awkward, and ultimately saw the experience as a learning one, saying he just wanted it to feel like a normal date.

Harry Styles, speaking about Taylor Swift’s songs widely believed to be inspired by their relationship – “Out of the Woods” and “Style” – said he feels fortunate if their time together contributed to her music. He explained that the most meaningful and difficult emotions are the hardest to discuss, and that’s a deeply personal connection he prefers to keep private. He added that he’ll never share every detail of their story.

Asked if he had anything to tell Swift, he mused, “Certain things don’t work out. There’s a lot of things that can be right, and it’s still wrong. In writing songs about stuff like that, I like tipping a hat to the
time together.

You’re celebrating the fact it was powerful and made you feel something, rather than ‘this didn’t work out, and that’s bad.’ And if you run into that person, mayb

Harry likes snowboarding.

In January 2014, a source told TopMob News that Harry and Kendall Jenner seemed to be enjoying each other’s company after they were seen together in Mammoth Lakes. Kendall herself described Harry as “cool” and a “friend” at the American Music Awards the previous November.

Harry also likes swimming.

That marked the beginning of a complicated friendship between Styles and Jenner, one that spanned several years and took them to places like Southern California, Anguilla, and St. Barts.

Harry Styles hinted in a 2017 interview with Rolling Stone that a more recent ex-girlfriend than Taylor Swift – possibly Kendall Jenner – heavily influenced his album. He explained that sometimes he prefers to subtly acknowledge an ex in his work, while other times he wants to make it completely obvious it’s about them.

Any photos circulating over the years that seemed to show Harry and Louis – or “Larry,” as fans nicknamed them – kissing were not real.

Harry Styles clarified on Australian television show Sunrise that a photo of him and Louis Tomlinson appearing to kiss was altered. He pointed out that the original picture, which was in a magazine, actually included another woman in the shot.

Louis explained that this had happened to him and Niall too. He described how, when someone is being targeted, others will often isolate them. He thought it was a surprisingly effective tactic.

Harry was the one who first brought up the idea of One Direction taking a break, suggesting it in 2014 while they were recording in a London studio – a setting reminiscent of The Beatles.

We didn’t want to wear out our fans,” he explained to Rolling Stone. “It would have been easy to just keep touring, but we all respected the band too much to do that. You start to feel burnt out, and you don’t want to lose the support of the people who believe in you.

Zayn’s friends supported his decision, and he took the first step in leaving One Direction in March 2015. This came after he had been dealing with anxiety and problems in his relationship with Perrie Edwards, fueled by tabloid rumors of infidelity.

After Zayn Malik left, the remaining members of One Direction continued performing, letting their fans know a break was coming with an announcement in August. Their final concert was held on October 31, 2015, at Sheffield Arena in Britain – a particularly sad night for their dedicated fanbase.

Okay, so I nearly DIED when I heard Zayn basically said One Direction’s music wasn’t cool enough for a date! Can you BELIEVE it?! But Harry? Oh, Harry was a total pro. He didn’t say a bad word, just stayed super chill and diplomatic about the whole thing. Honestly, he could handle anything, even that comment. I swear, he’s an angel.

Styles told Rolling Stone that while he was saddened by the other person’s feelings, he always wants the best for anyone pursuing their passion.

Honestly, if something isn’t making you happy, you have to switch gears and find something that does! I’m just so thrilled he’s finally prioritizing his own happiness and chasing what he loves. I really hope everything works out for him – he deserves all the good things!

He explained to Rolling Stone that he didn’t want to just write fictional stories for his first solo album, aptly named Harry Styles. He wanted to share his personal experiences – the things that actually happened to him. Being honest was his main goal, something he hadn’t prioritized in his previous work.

That being said, the game was on when it came to figuring out what, or who, he was singing about.

Harry explained that he deliberately keeps his personal and professional lives separate. He finds this helps him maintain a sense of balance and feels it’s important not to create a public persona. He likes to return home feeling like the same person he always was, and believes that’s impossible if you overshare. He really enjoys switching between his work and personal life, finding it incredibly fulfilling.

The songwriter explained to Rolling Stone that the song is told from the perspective of a mother experiencing a difficult childbirth. She’s told her baby will be okay, but she won’t survive, and she has only five minutes to offer her child a final message of encouragement – to go out and achieve great things.

Harry Styles is known for his good looks, and his hair is a major part of that. Back in 2017, British Vogue took a look at his dressing table before a Paris concert and found seven different hair products, along with a Tom Ford perfume, a Diptyque candle, and Sunday Riley face oil.

Vogue beauty editor Lisa Niven jokingly observed that Harry seems to have the self-care routine of a professional beauty editor, praising his use of Ouai hair products and especially the Sunday Riley oil. She added with a smile, ‘Who wouldn’t request a Diptyque candle when making requests for an event?’

Only a few million people noticed his haircut before he began actively promoting his music again.

Oh my gosh, he actually said he felt totally exposed after shaving his head! It was for a role, obviously, and he told Vogue it wasn’t even a tough call – he just did it! And the best part? They saved his hair and turned it into a wig! Can you even imagine?! It’s just… everything about it is perfect.

Harry actually has six nipples – the usual two, plus an extra two smaller ones right underneath them.

When Harry was in One Direction, he was known for his casual style – tight pants and wrinkled T-shirts. Since then, he’s completely transformed his look, favoring sharply tailored suits, stylish jackets, and other eye-catching outfits, and has even modeled for Gucci in two ad campaigns.

Harry Styles said Shania Twain was a major influence on both his music and fashion. He told Entertainment Tonight, ‘I think she’s amazing.’

Wait, what?

Growing up in the ’90s, I heard a lot of Shania Twain, Norah Jones, and Savage Garden thanks to my mom, Anne. Meanwhile, my dad, Des, was teaching me everything about rock and roll.

Harry began pursuing his music while also starting his acting career with a role in Christopher Nolan’s epic war film, Dunkirk, released in July 2017. The movie was a critical success, receiving eight Academy Award nominations and winning three.

Harry Styles said that auditioning for Christopher Nolan was more challenging than auditioning for Simon Cowell. He explained on ITV’s This Morning that Nolan is very reserved – he doesn’t offer any feedback during the audition, just sits quietly in the dark. Styles described the experience as incredibly intense, saying he’d go home and endlessly worry about whether Nolan had been impressed.

At least he could rest assured that Nolan wasn’t giving him special treatment.

The director admitted they didn’t fully realize how well-known Harry was at the time of casting. While their children had mentioned him, it hadn’t really registered. Ultimately, they chose Harry because he was a perfect fit for the role and proved his talent during the audition process.

Styles admitted that walking onto the set of a big-budget war epic was a bit intimidating at first.

He told The Big Issue that he was immediately struck by the sheer size of the production. He said walking onto the set was overwhelming. As it was his first film, he also had to quickly learn how to manage the demanding and sometimes chaotic environment – even in a literal sense.

One particularly intense scene involved Harry Styles’ character, Alex, nearly drowning. Styles explained to USA Today that filming the scene was genuinely challenging because he was also acutely aware of his limited breath-holding ability, which surprisingly aided his performance. He recalled that just before filming began in France, the crew questioned his swimming skills, and the shoot involved an extraordinary amount of swimming – to the point where he joked they seemed concerned he might actually drown.

And…he’s funny, too.

In 2017, Harry Styles was everywhere promoting his music, but he also successfully stepped in to host The Late Late Show twice – once in 2017 and again in 2019 – even mastering American-style political comedy. Interestingly, years earlier while looking for a house in Hampstead Heath, he lived with Late Late Show executive producer Ben Winston and his wife, Meredith, for nearly two years, sleeping on a mattress in their attic.

He was away a lot, being a major pop star, but still.

Styles admitted he was hesitant to bring dates back to Meredith’s place, but Winston shared that Styles definitely wasn’t always alone. He described it as fun to see the famous people who’d either stay in the attic or just hang out with them, and noted they never talked shop. Styles would act like his recent performances for crowds of 80,000 in Rio de Janeiro were no big deal.

As a huge fan, I’ll never forget when Harry took on the role of Mick Jagger on Saturday Night Live back in 2017 – it was a perfect fit! He was the musical guest at the time, with Jimmy Fallon hosting. Then, in July 2018, he was on The Tonight Show with Jimmy and casually mentioned he’d love to host the show someday. Jimmy playfully ‘collapsed,’ and Harry just naturally took over behind the desk – it was amazing to watch!

Styles returned to SNL as host and musical guest in 2019 and crushed it.

CBS’s show Happy Together, which marked Harry Styles’ debut as an executive producer on American network television, wasn’t renewed after airing its first 13 episodes.

After his first solo tour ended in July 2018, nearly 1 million tickets had been sold across 89 shows. The tour raised $1.2 million for various charities, thanks to donations from ticket sales, Live Nation, and the GLSEN PRIDE campaign.

Harry Styles’ career soared after he won his first Grammy in 2021 for his song “Watermelon Sugar.” He continued his success two years later with his album Harry’s House, winning two Grammys, including the prestigious Album of the Year. When accepting the Album of the Year award, he humbly shared, “This is so nice, and this doesn’t happen to people like me very often.”

Harry’s accomplishments go beyond his Grammy award. In 2020, he made history as the first solo male artist to appear on the cover of Vogue magazine.

Harry also writes songs for other artists. Besides his own music, he co-wrote Ariana Grande’s popular song “Just a Little bit of Your Heart,” and the track “Someday” for Meghan Trainor and Michael Bublé.

Most people know Harry Styles as a singer and actor – he even appeared in Olivia Wilde’s film, Don’t Worry Darling. But he considered other career paths too. In a 2020 interview with Ellen DeGeneres, he revealed he would have loved to be a florist if he hadn’t become a musician.

He also thought about becoming a physiotherapist. He explained on BBC Radio 2’s The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show that he initially wanted to be a footballer, but wasn’t skilled enough. He then considered physiotherapy, but learned during a school career day that there weren’t many job opportunities in that field, so he pursued music instead.
