Henry Cavill is a popular choice for fantasy roles, and recently, rumors started circulating that he might join the cast of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Now, one of the show’s actors has responded to those rumors.
The discussion began when fans of Game of Thrones re-shared a video from a New York Comic-Con interview with Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell, the actors who play Dunk and Egg. In the video, which spread on X, Claffey jokingly compared his character, Ser Duncan the Tall, to a less attractive and self-assured version of Geralt of Rivia. Ansell then started to ask if they could mention Henry Cavill, who famously played Geralt, but Claffey quickly stopped him, saying, “No, no, no. Please don’t say that.”
A puzzling question from Ansell and a visibly uncomfortable answer from Claffey sparked rumors that Henry Cavill might be in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. However, Claffey recently used Instagram Stories to address the speculation and set the record straight. He explained:
Just to be clear, what Dex mentioned in the interview wasn’t about Henry Cavill joining the show or anything related to Game of Thrones. It was a complete misinterpretation.
It’s disappointing for fans who were hoping to see Henry Cavill play Daemon Blackfyre. However, with the ambitious 15-season plan for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, there’s still a possibility he could appear in the future. That would definitely please Game of Thrones fans who have been eager to see him join the cast.
Why Game of Thrones Fans Want Henry Cavill in the Franchise So Badly

It’s easy to see why fans want Henry Cavill in Game of Thrones – just look at his performance as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher. He truly made the role his own, largely because he’s a dedicated fan of the original stories. That level of passion is exactly what Game of Thrones fans would love to see, and he certainly has the right look for a fantasy series.
Henry Cavill’s white hair in The Witcher gives fans a strong idea of what he’d look like as a member of the Targaryen family – and the result is exciting. This is why people were already suggesting him for House of the Dragon, and now they’re hoping to see him in future Targaryen-focused stories like A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. While many actors could play these roles, Cavill has already succeeded in a popular fantasy series, and viewers are clearly enthusiastic about seeing him return to the genre. Hopefully, he’ll get the opportunity.
