Haunted Paws Dev Accuses New Cosy PS5, PS4 Horror of Being a Copycat

The game Ghostly Whiskers is coming to the PlayStation Store, but it appears to be another unremarkable title created using AI-generated art.

However, a game created by Nostra Games, a studio based in Cyprus, is now facing accusations of being a copycat. The developers of the indie game Haunted Paws claim their work was copied.

Both games let you and a friend play together as cute animals – a cat in Ghostly Whispers and a puppy in Haunted Paws – exploring spooky but not-too-scary worlds similar to those in the Luigi’s Mansion games.

Here’s how Ghostly Whiskers describes itself:

Ghostly Whiskers is a brief but memorable adventure game you can play alone or with a friend. It mixes spooky moments with genuinely touching scenes. You’ll solve puzzles, investigate creepy environments, and use cat-like abilities – such as squeezing into small areas, climbing, and using your sense of smell – to discover the story’s secrets.

And here’s how Haunted Paws introduces itself:

Team up with a friend – it’s free! – and explore a world of spooky mysteries and creepy creatures. The game combines cute and unsettling moments for a truly engaging experience. Share an eerie but heartwarming adventure filled with emotional stories and work together to uncover secrets in this cozy, spooky world.

Yeah, they sound pretty similar.

We haven’t seen any gameplay of Ghostly Whiskers, and since Haunted Paws isn’t released yet, it’s difficult to determine how similar the two games actually are.

Lazy Flock Studio, the team behind Haunted Paws, has publicly stated that a game currently available is a blatant copy of their work. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), they clarified, “This is not a Haunted Paws game.” They explained that the game illegally copies their ideas, artwork, and story, and even uses AI-created content. They are particularly concerned that it’s being sold on the PlayStation Store.

If you’ve recently checked the PlayStation Store, or really any online store for games, you’ve probably noticed it’s packed with content like this.

Ghostly Whiskers is currently scheduled to launch on January 15th, and we don’t expect these claims to delay its release.
