As a dedicated fan who has grown up with the Brockman family, I can confidently say that the return of Outnumbered is an absolute delight for me. Having watched these characters since their early days, it’s fascinating to see how they‘ve evolved and matured – both on and off screen. The dynamic between parents and adult children is particularly intriguing, as it mirrors my own experiences with my own family.
Add Outnumbered to your watchlist
According to co-creator Andy Hamilton of the show, we had planned to revisit this family at a later point in time. He adds that after a significant interval, changes become more pronounced. Interactions between parents and grown-up children undergo a noticeable shift.
Specifically, it’s challenging to celebrate Christmas as an adult with family due to everyone’s busy schedules. When they were young, they followed our movements. Coordinating everyone’s plans is the real challenge!
As a fan, I remember when this series started back in 2007; Karen, Ben, and Jake, portrayed by Ramona Marquez, Daniel Roche, and Tyger Drew-Honey respectively, were just six, eight, and eleven years old. Their chaotic younger Brockmans characters were under the watchful eyes of parents Pete (played by Hugh Dennis) and Sue (Claire Skinner). Fast forward to now, these talented young actors have grown up, maturing both on and off-screen, adding a new energy to the show. They are 23, 25, and 28 years old now!
Fortunately, they’ve all turned into really good actors
According to Guy Jenkin, Hamilton’s co-creator, Ramona and Dan were initially more immersed in the experience than traditional acting when they started working with them. However, they have since developed into excellent actors. Now, we’re providing them with suggestions that we once gave to Hugh and Claire.
While it’s not certain that the show’s signature, semi-improvisational child acts will never return, keep in mind that this is “Outnumbered: The Next Generation,” featuring Skinner and Dennis as grandparents to a young girl instead.
For a joke, we’d often say that we’d keep doing something until our grandchildren were born,” Jenkin chuckles, “but surprisingly enough, we really did it!

Hamilton notes that the young actress they’ve been filming is only four years old, but she’s portraying a character who is supposed to be three. This makes her role younger than any of the original cast members were when they started.
So far, there’s no word on which of the younger Brockman siblings has taken on parenthood – a hint perhaps, that the charming world of Outnumbered might be ready for a revival, this time focusing on a brand new generation.

Jenkin mentions, “There could be another thought on the horizon, but we aimed to make this occasion extraordinary. After all, it’s been eight long years since we last saw these characters from our childhood. I hope everyone is eager and intrigued to find out what became of this beloved family.
He laughs and adds: “You can hold this against us when we come back next year!”
