Hayley Williams Reveals Morgan Wallen Is the “Racist” in Her New Song

Hayley Williams isn’t one to name names, but Morgan Wallen is among the only exceptions.

Following the release of Paramore’s lead singer’s song, “Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party,” featuring the lyrics, “I’ll be the biggest star at this racist country singer’s bar,” she clarified that the line was, indeed, a direct reference to the singer of “I Had Some Help” and his bar in Nashville.

On the September 30th episode of The New York TimesPopcast podcast, Williams suggested the reference might be to a couple, but then added, “I’m always talking about Morgan Wallen, I don’t give a damn.”

She then challenged the “Last Night” singer to start a problem with her, playfully saying, “Come find me at Whole Foods you know what, I don’t care.”

TopMob News has contacted representatives for Wallen about Williams’ statements, but they haven’t received a response yet.

It’s not just Williams who has criticized Morgan Wallen’s past racist actions. Other country artists, including Kelsea Ballerini and Maren Morris, spoke out against him before. They condemned The Voice contestant after a video emerged in 2021 showing him using a racial slur.

In a post on X, Kelsea Ballerini stated, “The events happening in Nashville tonight do not reflect the values of country music.”

Meanwhile, the singer of “The Middle” shared that she was let down, but not shocked, by Morgan’s racist actions.

Morris explained in a post on X that this behavior is typical for him, noting it wasn’t his first incident and that he recently broke a major streaming record. She added, “Everyone knows he’s used that language before. We consistently support and shield these people, leaving victims with no options.”

Even though Morgan Wallen has become accustomed to defending himself against recent criticism, he admitted that the video footage, originally released by TMZ, showed him making a “careless” error.

“I feel ashamed and deeply regret my actions,” TopMob News reports Wallen said in a statement. “I said a hurtful and unacceptable racial slur, and I wish I could undo it. There’s absolutely no justification for using language like that, ever. I truly apologize for saying the word, and I commit to learning from this and doing better in the future.”

Live from New York…it’s a sudden exit.

After serving as the musical guest for the March 29, 2025 episode of Saturday Night Live, Morgan Wallen took the stage to close out the show with host Mikey Madison

But after the Anora star said goodbye to viewers, the country music star gave her a quick hug and then walked off—breaking tradition of hanging out with the cast as the credits roll.

Wallen later posted a photo of an airplane sitting on the runway to his Instagram Stories and wrote, “Get me to God’s country.”

In April 2024, Morgan Wallen was arrested after police say he threw a chair from the roof of Chief’s bar in Nashville. Just over a week later, the Grammy nominee spoke about the incident publicly.

“I wanted to wait until I had made things right with those involved before saying anything,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter) on April 19, 2024. “I’ve been in contact with Nashville police, my family, and the staff at Chief’s. I’m not happy with how I acted, and I take full responsibility.”

In December 2024, Wallen pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment related to the chair-throwing. He received a two-year probation sentence and was ordered to spend seven days at a center for DUI education.

After a video surfaced in February 2021 showing Morgan Wallen using a racial slur, the singer issued an apology to his fans.

“I’m embarrassed and sorry,” he stated to TopMob News. “I said something hurtful and inappropriate that I deeply regret. There’s absolutely no justification for using that kind of language, ever. I sincerely apologize for saying it, and I promise to learn from this and do better.”

The incident drew widespread condemnation. Numerous country artists criticized Wallen, radio stations stopped playing his music, his record label temporarily suspended his contract, and he was excluded from several award shows that year.

In a later Instagram video, Wallen said, “My words have impact,” he said. “A single word can be incredibly damaging, and that’s not who I want to be. This week, I heard personal stories from Black individuals that truly affected me. I realize what I’m going through pales in comparison to the hardships they’ve faced. Those conversations gave me a greater understanding of the power of my words and a deep respect for those who shared their experiences.”

Morgan Wallen was originally set to appear as the musical guest on SNL in October 2020. However, after pictures and videos of him at a party in Alabama became public, he was removed from the show for violating its COVID-19 safety rules.

“I was preparing for SNL this Saturday, and I received a call informing me that I would no longer be performing. This was due to COVID protocols, which I understand,” Wallen explained in a video posted on social media at the time. “I didn’t test positive for COVID, but my behavior over the weekend was careless and has clearly impacted my future plans and ambitions.”

The singer of “Last Night” admitted he was responsible for his actions.

“Personally, I realize I need to mature,” he added. “I feel like I’ve lost sight of who I am. I’ve been seeking happiness in the wrong places, and it’s ultimately made me less happy. So, I’m going to focus on self-improvement. I’m going to step away from public life for a while to work on myself.”

Jack White filled in as the musical guest, but Wallen was given another opportunity to perform on SNL that December. He even made a joke about the situation during one of the sketches.

The Voice contestant was arrested for public intoxication and disruptive behavior in May 2020. Reports say he was asked to leave Kid Rock‘s Big Ass Honky Tonk Rock N’ Roll Steakhouse. An arrest warrant obtained by The Tennessean stated that Wallen was reportedly “kicking glass items” and then argued with people walking by.

“Hey everyone, I wanted to explain what happened,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter) at the time. “I went out downtown last night with some old friends. After visiting a few bars, we were just messing around. We didn’t intend to cause any trouble and apologize to any bar employees or anyone who was impacted.”

According to court records from the Howard Gentry Criminal Court Clerk in Tennessee, the charges against Wallen were dropped that July.

According to court records found online, Morgan Wallen was arrested in Tennessee in 2016 and accused of driving under the influence. However, the charge was dropped later that same year.
