The animated series Hazbin Hotel, starring Charlie Morningstar and its colorful cast of characters, has quickly become a huge hit on Amazon Prime Video. After a year-long wait since season one, the second season promises a larger, more ambitious story with deeper explorations of the characters and the show’s universe, as creator Vivienne Medrano has stated. While the show still features its signature edgy content, this season aims to reveal more about the lives of those staying at the hotel. Now that the Hellaverse has returned, does season two live up to expectations?
Just a quick recap: the first season of Hazbin Hotel introduced viewers to Charlie and her friends and ended with a full-scale war between Heaven and Hell. Following the battle, Adam died and Sir Pentious found redemption, earning his place in Heaven. This has brought a lot of attention to the hotel, with new demons hoping to join and the villain Vox trying to ruin Charlie’s work. Season two juggles several storylines, diving into important backstories and escalating the central conflict. However, because the season is so much bigger, it sometimes feels a bit disorganized and struggles to maintain momentum.

| Pros | Cons |
| The soundtrack lives up to, and often excels past, the first season’s. | The meaty season can often lose track of many of its characters when introducing new faces to the weighty cast. |
| The character building and back stories work well in expanding the universe. | There are times where the animation can look a little stiff |

The Hazbin Hotel’s Open For Business

Season two of Hazbin Hotel continues the success of the first season, especially with its music. Songs like “Gravity” and “Once We Get Up There” are both incredibly catchy and contribute to the storyline. One song, featuring Niffty and her efforts to promote the hotel, is a standout – it’s funny, references anime, and really captures what makes the series great. If you enjoyed the music from season one, you’ll definitely love what the SpindleHorse team has created for season two – they clearly know how to write memorable songs.
Season two has a compelling storyline, building on the fame Hazbin Hotel earned from its win against Heaven. However, this success creates a problem: new demons arrive expecting a party, not rehabilitation. Along with fresh faces like Baxter, returning character Cherry Bomb wants to become a regular, and Heaven introduces new players of its own. Sadly, these additions contribute to some weaker elements compared to the first season.
The Hazbin Hotel: No Vacancies

While the show has potential, the second season of Hazbin Hotel struggles because it tries to do too much. The creators clearly had a lot of enthusiasm for bringing Charlie’s story back, and they filled the season with new characters, backstories, and plotlines. However, this abundance of content means some characters and storylines feel underdeveloped, getting only brief appearances or quickly fizzling out. A key element that was expected to be important is surprisingly missing for much of the season. Ultimately, the show tries to juggle too many things at once, and as a result, some aspects don’t quite work.
While the music and songs in Hazbin Hotel’s second season are generally strong, the animation occasionally feels less dynamic during calmer scenes. It doesn’t significantly improve upon the first season’s animation, but it remains solid where it counts. This season might not be a huge leap forward from the original episodes, but fans who enjoyed Charlie and the other characters will still find plenty to enjoy.
Season 2 of Hazbin Hotel premieres October 29th on Amazon Prime Video. The first two episodes will be available immediately, followed by two new episodes each week.
