WARNING! This article contains spoilers for the Season 2 finale of Hazbin Hotel.
The season 2 finale of Hazbin Hotel dramatically changed things in Hell, and left fans of Alastor, the Radio Demon, with a lot of questions. Throughout the season, Alastor cleverly caused trouble between the Vees – all while being held captive – and carefully planned his next move. Finally, he put his plan into action, freeing himself from Rosie, the Overlord who controlled him even before his death. This means Alastor is now completely free to act as he wishes in Hell, and the biggest mystery heading into the next season of the Prime Video show is: what will he do now?
Amir Talai, who voices the character Alastor, recently talked about the surprising ending to the show and how it sets up Season 3. While he remained tight-lipped about specific plot details, Talai explained that Alastor’s new freedom will significantly impact his complicated connection with Charlie Morningstar. When asked about what fans can expect now that Alastor is no longer bound by his chains, Talai playfully responded, staying in character, that he knows exactly what’s coming and that’s what Season 3 will explore.
Is Alastor’s Connection to Charlie Stronger Than His Unknown Goals?

At his core, Alastor is a mystery: is he a hero who acts on impulse, or a truly evil being? His behavior is often contradictory and confusing, which makes him fascinating to watch – and, according to one actor, challenging to play. For instance, in Season 2, he strikes a deal with Vox to be imprisoned, but with one firm condition: Vox must not harm Charlie Morningstar. Is this a genuine attempt to protect her, or a clever manipulation, counting on Vox’s pride to lead to his downfall?
Talai paused, trying to explain Alastor without giving away too much. “I think it’s common for characters, especially villains, to have hidden reasons for their actions. But with Alastor, it’s fascinating to consider a motive so strong it overshadows his humanity.”
To make Alastor a compelling character, he needs to be able to connect with others, even when those connections complicate his schemes. Talai explains that it’s easy to write a character who simply manipulates people, but a truly great performance hints at a deeper, more complex side.
It’s easy to plan how you’ll interact with people – deciding you’ll connect with ‘Rosie,’ ‘Vox,’ and ‘Charlie,’ for example. But when it comes down to real life, these are actual people, and so are you. If you can’t build genuine relationships, you’re not a particularly compelling person.
I think the central mystery of Season 3 really comes down to Alastor and his feelings for Charlie. It’s hard to tell how much of his care for her is genuine, and how much is just an act. That question is key, because if he does genuinely care for her, will that interfere with his plans? Or will his bigger goals ultimately mean something bad happens to Charlie? It’s a really interesting conflict for both Alastor and the audience to grapple with – how will this affect their relationship, and how will Alastor deal with it?
Alastor’s Animosity Towards Lucifer Hints at a Much Larger and More Complicated Plan

The relationship between Alastor and Charlie is made even more complex by Charlie’s father, Lucifer Morningstar. Lucifer immediately distrusts Alastor when they meet in the first season, and Alastor responds with his usual unsettling smile. According to Talai, this odd rivalry is intentional and will play a significant role in the story going forward.
The conflict between Lucifer and Alastor is both funny and full of tension, stemming from a competition for Charlie’s affection and approval. Lucifer sees Alastor as an annoying intruder who’s bothering his daughter and loitering around the hotel, while Alastor clearly enjoys provoking the powerful Lucifer.
Talai pointed out that the ongoing interaction between Lucifer and Alastor is more than just a joke. It makes viewers wonder about the origins of their conflict and what Alastor is really trying to achieve. Talai enjoys how this creates a mystery for the audience, prompting speculation about whether Alastor’s behavior stems from a personal issue with Lucifer or a bigger plan involving Charlie. He finds it fun to see fans share their theories online.
Now that Alastor is free from Rosie, he’s perfectly set up to move forward with his long-term plan. His defiance of Lucifer and his strange protectiveness of Charlie seem to be part of a bigger picture that only he understands. It’s unclear whether his pursuit of power will involve Charlie directly – perhaps even putting her in danger – or if he’ll ultimately use her to achieve his goals. Talai believes the answers will be worth the anticipation, hinting that the recent shocking reveal was just the beginning of the story.
