- HBO’s crypto documentary “Money Electric” claims to reveal Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity.
- Memecoins inspired by Len Sassaman have surged on various cryptocurrency networks.
As a seasoned researcher with over two decades of experience in technology and cryptocurrencies, I’ve seen my fair share of mysteries and surprises. The latest buzz surrounding HBO’s documentary, “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery,” is no exception. While I won’t jump to conclusions just yet, I must say the theories about Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity have become more intriguing than ever before.
The upcoming HBO documentary titled “Money Electric: Unraveling the Enigma of Bitcoin’s Creator” aims to finally reveal the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the mastermind behind the creation of Bitcoin (BTC).
Under the guidance of the director renowned for unveiling QAnon’s enigmas, this upcoming documentary promises to illuminate one of the most profound mysteries hidden within contemporary technology.
There’s a growing belief among cryptocurrency enthusiasts and betting community members, particularly those on platforms like Polymarket, that Leonard “Len” Sassaman might be the creator of Bitcoin, known as Nakamoto.
On October 8th, this new documentary is set to launch, aiming to rekindle debates about the various speculations concerning the identity of Bitcoin’s founder, a mystery that has intrigued us since it was first introduced in 2009.
Polymarket odds shift
It’s been proposed that Nick Szabo is the leading contender for Satoshi Nakamoto, as suggested by predictions on Polymarket and an upcoming documentary airing on HBO.
In the past 24 hours, odds have shifted significantly, with Szabo now having a 27.9% chance of being identified as Satoshi, outranking cryptographer Len Sassaman (who previously held a 14% probability) and Blockstream CEO Adam Back (with a 4.3% likelihood).
For those who might not know, it’s important to mention that at the outset, Sassaman held a strong position with odds reaching up to 68%, soon after the market began trading on October 4th.
However, he saw a decline in support following producer Cullen Hoback’s remarks on CNN.
Sassaman is not Satoshi?
Hoback revealed he confronted someone he believes is the real Satoshi, effectively excluding Sassaman, who passed away in 2011.
Our arguments carry significant weight, and I believe their response could offer insights that are just as revealing, if not more so, than the evidence itself.
Furthermore, adding to the confusion, Meredith L. Patterson, the late wife of Sassaman, openly declared that her deceased spouse was not Satoshi Nakamoto. She also mentioned that HBO never contacted her while they were producing the documentary.
Patterson said,
I sometimes ponder if my honest responses to questioners on prediction markets might be misguided, yet in essence, I don’t care about their opinions.
At the moment, as per the recent reports from Polymarket, Nick Szabo stands at approximately 10.3%, while Adam Back is not far off, holding around 9.6%.
To my astonishment, even amidst this evolving scenario, I, as a researcher, found myself maintaining a significant position, holding 12% of the wager.
Memecoin sector gains from the hype
Regardless of the continuing mystery about who created Bitcoin, certain investors have managed to make profits by trading tokens that are linked to its theme.
Over the past few days, coins modeled after cryptographer Len Sassaman (a potential candidate for being Satoshi Nakamoto as suggested in an upcoming HBO documentary) have surfaced on the Solana, Ethereum, and Bitcoin networks.
Speculative investors minted LEN tokens across various platforms, accumulating substantial market values worth millions – only to later experience a partial reversal in their earnings.
Last week, a token called LEN, said to be the initial one issued on the SOL network, saw a significant price rise and is now worth more than $1.6 million.
Furthermore, the SASHA tokens, inspired by Sassaman’s feline friend, have surpassed market valuations of more than $5 million.
Cryptocurrency supporters have contacted Meredith L. Patterson, the widow of Sassaman, through their old Twitter account, seeking her advice about meme-based cryptos. In response, she provided a Solana wallet address where contributions can be made in the form of tokens.
It’s intriguing to note that certain traders have developed tokens inspired by Sassaman’s pets, such as his feline companion Sasha. On the other hand, some speculate that another cat, ODIN, might have been Sassaman’s earliest pet.
