HBO Max has had a successful year, marked not only by its name change back to simply “Max,” but also by a strong lineup of new shows. Popular series like It: Welcome to Derry, Task, The Pitt, and I Love LA have premiered on the platform. Plus, Max has been home to major movie releases this year, including Sinners, Superman, and Weapons. Despite competition from holiday-themed content, one recent addition quickly rose to the top of the streaming charts.
Since its release on December 19th, Paul Thomas Anderson’s film, One Battle After Another, has become the most-streamed movie on HBO Max. Despite competing with popular holiday favorites like Christmas With The Kranks (number two), Elf (number four), and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (number six), the Leonardo DiCaprio film has reached the top spot. The animated film Ne Zha 2, which earned over $2 billion globally, is currently number three. While the film’s success is fantastic, its journey wasn’t without challenges.
One Battle After Another’s Loss

Although One Battle After Another received overwhelmingly positive reviews (95% on Rotten Tomatoes), it unfortunately performed poorly at the box office, reportedly losing $100 million. While a sequel or franchise wasn’t likely planned for this film, the loss still impacts Warner Bros Discovery’s 2025 financial outlook. Fortunately, the studio has seen success with other films this year, which helps offset this loss, especially as they prepare for their merger with Netflix.
Earlier this year, we at egmr.ru spoke with Leonardo DiCaprio about his career and which role resonated with him the most. Surprisingly, considering his many roles over the years, DiCaprio chose The Aviator. He explained that he’d been fascinated with the story of Howard Hughes for about ten years before finally getting the chance to play him around age 30. Working with Scorsese and being involved as a producer added extra weight to the project, making it a turning point in his life. It wasn’t the character’s quirks that stayed with him, but the extensive thought and preparation that went into portraying him.
