HBO Max is adding a lot of new anime movies, including one that has a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. The streaming service has been changing its content offerings recently, removing some animated shows and movies. While not usually the first place people think of for anime, HBO Max actually has a good selection of anime films available.
HBO Max is adding more anime movies from GKIDS in December 2025, starting December 1st. This is part of a larger deal making HBO Max the only place to stream many of GKIDS’ most popular films. The first set of movies arrived this fall, and now fans can look forward to another collection of anime films, all of which have been highly rated by Rotten Tomatoes.
HBO Max Reveals New Anime Movies Coming in December

HBO Max will be adding a collection of anime films on December 1st, including several well-known and highly-regarded titles, according to a recent announcement from Warner Bros.
- Liz and the Blue Bird
- Lu Over the Wall
- Millennium Actress
- Mind Game
- Perfect Blue
- Summer Wars
- The Colors Within
- The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
- Wolf Children
Thanks to a new agreement with GKIDS, Shin Godzilla will be available to stream on HBO Max starting December 1st. This addition, along with the platform’s existing collection of Studio Ghibli films, is making HBO Max a more attractive option for anime fans, even though it doesn’t currently offer as many anime TV series as some other streaming services.
All of these movies have been highly rated on Rotten Tomatoes, with every one earning a ‘Fresh’ certification and scores above 80%. However, the standout release is Mind Game, which has achieved a perfect 100% rating. This is an exceptional accomplishment for an anime film – maintaining a perfect score is incredibly rare and really shows how special this movie is.
Why You Should Watch These Anime Films

The most exciting part of this new agreement with GKIDS is that HBO Max will be streaming high-quality versions of these films. Several titles, including Perfect Blue, Summer Wars, The Boy and the Beast, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, and Wolf Children, will be available in 4K for the first time. Plus, The Colors Within will be streamed in North America for the very first time with this launch.
GKIDS brings anime films to audiences that may not be huge blockbusters like Demon Slayer, but are often beautifully made and worth discovering. With their films becoming available on HBO Max soon, it’s a great time to start watching if you haven’t already.
