In September, HBO Max subscribers are in for an exciting anime treat! The platform is set to add one of the all-time greatest anime movies. Already known for hosting some of Studio Ghibli’s finest works, popular series like “Jujutsu Kaisen,” “FLCL,” and “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood,” HBO Max will now be home to a contemporary anime masterpiece that every true anime enthusiast should not miss, thanks to their new deal with GKIDS.
In terms of iconic anime movies, chances are your thoughts gravitate towards the creations of Hayao Miyazaki, or perhaps works like “Akira,” “Ghost in the Shell,” and “Angel’s Egg” if you were born before 2000. However, an exceptional anime director who has been making waves with his movies for the past ten years is Makoto Shinkai. His films have become contemporary classics, but it’s his 2016 masterpiece that HBO Max will be promoting in September, complete with a new 4K streaming edition!
HBO Max Brings Makoto Shinkai’s Best Film to Streaming
Not only will popular anime titles like “Perfect Blue” and “Angel’s Egg” be joining HBO Max next month, but the streamer is also set to bring Makoto Shinkai’s latest film to streaming. To be precise, starting September 1st, you can watch “Your Name” on HBO Max. Released in 2016 to much praise, “Your Name” is often considered Makoto Shinkai’s finest work, with other notable titles such as “Weathering With You”, “Suzume”, and “The Garden of Words” also holding strong within the anime community.
The movie received rave reviews from critics at its premiere, earning a near-flawless 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences also seem to love the film, with a 95% audience approval rating. The plot revolves around Mitsuha, a small-town mayor’s daughter yearning for life in bustling Tokyo, and Taki, a high school student from Tokyo with dreams bigger than his part-time job. After discovering they can trade bodies during sleep, their lives become intertwined to an even greater extent when they arrange to meet each other in reality.
Your Name Will Stream in 4K on HBO Max
Instead of simply moving onto HBO Max, your favorite movie, Your Name, is set for an enhanced experience. It’s not just going to stream on HBO Max, but it will stream in stunning 4K resolution! Starting from September 1st, this will be the first time “Your Name” is available for 4K streaming anywhere. So if you want the best way to watch this movie (outside of a possible theatrical re-release), HBO Max is the place to be.
Your Name and many other anime movies will stream on HBO Max from September 1st.
