HBO Max has a lot of new movies and shows coming in February, including titles like The Shape of Water and Insidious: Chapter 3. But before you start watching those, don’t miss a chance to see a fantastic action movie from 2022 – it’s leaving the streaming service in just two days!
Gina Prince-Bythewood’s historical action film, The Woman King, will no longer be available on HBO Max after February 12th. It premiered on the platform in August and tells the story of the Agojie, a powerful all-female warrior group who defended the West African Kingdom of Dahomey. The movie received high praise in 2022, being named a top ten film by both the American Film Institute and the National Board of Review, and earning nominations for Critics’ Choice, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild awards. Despite the recognition, The Woman King didn’t win any of these awards, and many critics were upset when it wasn’t nominated for any Oscars.
The Woman King Is an Action-Packed Historical Drama That Is Severely Underappreciated
If you haven’t watched The Woman King yet, make it a priority before it leaves HBO Max! Critics and audiences loved it, giving it high ratings – 94% from critics and 99% from viewers – and earning it “Certified Fresh” and “Verified Hot” badges on Rotten Tomatoes. While some have pointed out historical inaccuracies, the film is generally praised as a strong, action-packed story with compelling female leads.
Viola Davis delivers a truly outstanding, Oscar-caliber performance as General Nanisca in The Woman King. She powerfully portrays a strong, yet vulnerable leader training a new generation of female warriors. The supporting cast, including Thuso Mbedu and John Boyega, also shines. Beyond the impressive, *Gladiatorstyle action and battles, the film is a compelling story about female empowerment, dealing with trauma, and the bonds of sisterhood. It’s an intense, emotional, and ultimately inspiring movie with broad appeal.
Where to Stream The Woman King After It Leaves HBO Max?
Don’t worry if you miss seeing The Woman King on HBO Max before it leaves on February 12th! It’s also available on Hulu and Disney+. You can also rent or buy it from various online stores. It’s currently unknown if the movie will be added to another streaming service soon, as March schedules haven’t been announced yet.
