Now that the 80s are in the past, it’s becoming more difficult to stream many of the decade’s best horror films, as they’re being removed from HBO Max.
HBO Max has been adding a lot of great horror movies this November, like The Conjuring: Last Rites. However, fans of older films should know that Evil Dead II will be leaving the platform on November 30th. The movie, a sequel to the 1981 horror hit, arrived on HBO Max in September. It stars Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams, battling more terrifying demons in a remote cabin. Evil Dead II is a horror comedy directed by Sam Raimi and was released six years after the original film.

Sequels often struggle to live up to the original, but Evil Dead II is a standout example of one that actually improved on the formula. It took the original’s blend of horror and slapstick comedy and amplified it, delivering even more over-the-top gore and hilarious absurdity. Director Sam Raimi pushed the film to an even more frantic and chaotic pace, establishing a signature style that continued throughout the franchise in Army of Darkness and the Ash vs Evil Dead TV series.
Evil Dead II is considered a landmark film, both for its genre and director Sam Raimi, and remains highly enjoyable even today. It helped inspire other popular horror-comedies like The Cabin in the Woods and Zombieland, and was actually better received by both critics and audiences than the first Evil Dead movie. With an 88% critic score and an 89% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s the highest-rated film in the Evil Dead series, scoring higher than the original by a significant margin.
Where to Stream Evil Dead II After It Leaves HBO Max?
If you’re a horror movie fan and have HBO Max, be sure to watch Evil Dead II before November 30th! It’s not available on any other streaming service right now, and after that date, you’ll only be able to rent or buy it digitally unless it moves to a different streaming platform.
It’s becoming harder for fans to watch all the Evil Dead movies, and the fact that Evil Dead II isn’t available on streaming services makes it even more difficult. Currently, viewers have to jump between different platforms and pay to rent or buy the five films. The original The Evil Dead is only on Plex, and Army of Darkness is only available for rent or purchase. The 2013 reboot, Evil Dead, can be found on Pluto TV, while Evil Dead Rise is streaming on HBO Max. As for the TV series, Ash vs Evil Dead, you’ll need a Starz subscription, but it’s also available on Pluto TV, Sling TV, The Roku Channel, and Philo.
