HBO Max Says Goodbye to Batman’s Most Underrated TV Series

HBO Max has taken down a surprisingly good Batman TV series. Viewers have become used to streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and HBO Max constantly adding and removing shows over the last few years.

At the start of each new year, many TV shows and movies become unavailable as their licensing agreements expire. This happened in December 2025 with a couple of DC series, including a Batman show that many fans felt was unfairly overlooked on streaming platforms.

As of January 1st, the animated series Beware the Batman is no longer available on HBO Max. The show, which first aired in 2013, had been streaming on the platform since its launch in May 2020, for over five years. This information was reported by ToonHive on X.

Both the animated series Beware the Batman and the Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic have been removed from HBO Max, meaning these two DC titles are now available on other streaming services in the U.S.

The animated series Beware the Batman has faced a series of setbacks. Originally debuting on Cartoon Network in 2013, it was unexpectedly cancelled, then later reappeared on Adult Swim months after its first release. Ultimately, the show only lasted one season, producing a total of just 26 episodes.

Even though it didn’t last very long, Beware the Batman has gained a dedicated fanbase. It has a solid 82

This Batman cartoon was groundbreaking for its time, being the first to create the Dark Knight entirely with computer animation. It offered fans a fresh, visually distinct version of Gotham City and its inhabitants. The show has received positive attention for its distinctive art style and its habit of featuring relatively obscure villains each episode. Many viewers also believe this series influenced Matt Reeves’ recent Batman film, as it depicted a younger, more raw version of the character.

Currently, you can’t stream Beware the Batman in the U.S. However, DC fans with HBO Max subscriptions won’t be disappointed, as the service plans to add six more DC titles by the end of January 2026.

Will Beware the Batman Ever Resurface on Streaming?

It might be surprising to see shows like Beware the Batman disappear from HBO Max. The streaming service, owned by Warner Bros., was once known as the place to find everything from Warner Bros. But recently, HBO Max has started taking some Warner Bros. titles off the platform, and Beware the Batman is the newest example.

There’s still hope for the superhero show, and the often-overlooked Batman cartoon might finally get some recognition on streaming platforms.

Titles often disappear from streaming services like HBO Max simply because the licensing agreements have expired. This likely means the rights to stream Beware the Batman are currently available.

Ideally, a streaming service like Netflix or Amazon will obtain the rights to the show from Warner Bros. and make it available to viewers on their platform.

With shows like Batman: Caped Crusader and Merry Little Batman already available on Amazon Prime Video, it’s possible the platform will soon add Beware the Batman, giving fans another way to watch the series.
