Frequently changing lineups of streaming services often leave viewers uncertain about what’s available on their preferred platform. HBO Max stands out with a rich array of films, and some fantastic movie titles currently lead its popular chart, making them excellent additions to your viewing list.
If you’re seeking some side-splitting, cringe-worthy comedy that’s been making waves recently, or if you’re in the mood for a bone-chilling supernatural suspense, we have a few HBO Max recommendations tailored just for you today.
Friendship (2025)
The year 2025 has been particularly enjoyable for comedy, an unexpected turn given the studios’ reluctance towards this genre over the past decade. However, comedy has made a strong resurgence with two standout productions that contrast each other greatly. One is the revival of Paramount’s ‘Naked Gun,’ and the dark A24 comedy ‘Friendship,’ which happens to be HBO Max’s most popular title at the moment.
Since its premiere on HBO Max last weekend, the film “Friendship” has been leading their movie charts day after day. This is terrific news as “Friendship”, not only being the standout comedy of 2025, but also one of the funniest movies to hit screens in a while, is definitely worth checking out if you’re seeking a good chuckle this weekend. While Tim Robinson’s unique style of humor might not appeal to everyone, for those eager for a dose of laughter, “Friendship” should undoubtedly be at the top of your watchlist.
The Conjuring (2013)
The initial installment by James Wan, often hailed as one, could very well be the scariest movie from the 2010s decade (though _Sinister_ comes close). Despite mixed opinions on its subsequent sequels and spin-offs, the original _Conjuring_ film stands out with its combination of terrifying elements and emotional depth – a quality not commonly found in most horror productions.
Autumn is an ideal season to revisit the chilling tales of The Conjuring once more, and this week seems particularly fitting for a re-watch. Currently playing in cinemas, The Conjuring: Last Rites promises to be the concluding chapter in the haunting story of Ed and Lorraine Warren.
Misery (1990)
This weekend, there’s a highly anticipated Stephen King movie playing in theaters generating lots of excitement. The film is called “The Long Walk” and it has been praised more than expected by both critics and fans. It currently holds the top rating for any King adaptation on Rotten Tomatoes. Given this occasion, I think it’s perfect to revisit another of Stephen King’s wildly acclaimed works – “Misery“.
In September of this year, the 1990 thriller has been included in HBO Max’s selection and it makes for an excellent choice for a chilly autumn night viewing. Kathy Bates delivers an unforgettable portrayal as she embodies a fervent admirer of a renowned author, whose affection for his work spirals into a truly alarming extent. This film is undoubtedly one of the finest adaptations of Stephen King’s works you’ll encounter.
