HBO Max has a great selection of original dramas, including historical shows like The Gilded Age and funny, dramatic series like The White Lotus. But one of their lesser-known, but excellent, dramas is leaving the platform soon, so if you want to watch it, you need to do so in the next few days.
HBO Asia’s historical action drama, Grisse, which first aired in 2018, will be removed from HBO Max later this month. All eight episodes of the miniseries, created by Mike Wiluan, will no longer be available to stream after February 25th. Set in the Dutch East Indies in the mid-1800s, the show follows a diverse group of rebels, led by a young woman named Kalia, as they fight against oppressive colonists and seize control of the town of Grisse. The single-season series stars Adinia Wirasti, Marthino Lio, Michael Wahr, Joanne Kam, and Zack Lee.
HBO Max’s Grisse Is the Best Historical Drama You Haven’t Heard About
If you enjoy historical dramas like HBO Max’s The Gilded Age and Perry Mason, you should definitely check out Grisse before it leaves the platform. This eight-episode series is a fast-paced, action-packed story of rebellion set in a beautifully detailed 19th-century town. It features strong, diverse female characters and keeps you hooked with its exciting and often intense action sequences. It’s a really satisfying show to binge-watch.
Despite being a truly excellent show, Grisse hasn’t become widely known in the U.S., which is unfortunate. It’s a hidden gem – a high-quality series that deserves more attention. While it doesn’t have a strong critical consensus on Rotten Tomatoes, viewers who have seen it give it a solid 70% rating, calling it both worthwhile and well-made.
Where to Stream Grisse After It Leaves HBO Max?
You only have one week left to watch the series Grisse on HBO Max before it’s no longer available for streaming in the U.S. All eight episodes are currently exclusive to HBO Max, and it’s unknown if it will be added to another streaming service soon. We’ll have to wait for March 2026 streaming platform updates to see if it moves elsewhere. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to rent or buy the series, as HBO Max is the only place to watch it.
