Hear Me Out: I Have A Hot Take About The Stranger Things Debate Involving Mike, Eleven And Will

I’ve been giving a lot of thought to the relationships on Stranger Things as we wait for the second part of Season 5. I’m especially focused on the debate surrounding Eleven, Mike, and Will – it feels like a love triangle. As the show heads towards its conclusion in 2025, we’ll likely find out who Mike ends up with. But the more I consider it, the more I realize I don’t want him to be with either of them.

Now, I know this is a hot take. Trust me, I’ve watched the Byler edits on TikTok, and I’ve seen the astounding support Mileven gets from fans. The debates are always sloshing around my social media too, as one side defends Mike and Eleven’s relationship while the other hopes for Will and Mike to be together. However, I’ve come up with three reasons why neither couple should happen, so let’s discuss.

Mike And Eleven Have Grown Apart

Mike and Eleven haven’t had much chance to connect lately, and it’s not their fault. Season 4 kept them physically apart, and in Season 5, they’ve only had one private conversation. As a result, their relationship hasn’t really progressed.

Considering everything each person is dealing with on their own, it’s understandable their relationship has become less of a focus. As the story continues, I’m finding it difficult to believe they’re meant to be together. They haven’t had much time on screen as a couple, so I’m not sure where their relationship even stands, and that makes it hard to root for them. It feels like they’ve simply drifted apart, and maybe a friendship would be a more natural fit for them now.

Mike Clearly Does Not Share Will’s Romantic Feelings

Towards the end of Stranger Things Season 4, it became apparent that Will has romantic feelings for Mike. However, Mike doesn’t seem to realize it, and as Finn Wolfhard pointed out, he’s completely unaware of Will’s feelings.

This happened in Season 4, and it’s happening again in Season 5. Will has hinted at his feelings to Robin and even seemed to try and express them to Mike, but Finn Wolfhard’s character just doesn’t seem to notice.

It doesn’t seem like Mike realizes how his friend feels, and I personally don’t think he has romantic feelings for him. I wouldn’t want to see them try to become something they’re not, so I think it’s best if they remain friends.

Overall, They’re All Traumatized Kids Who Need To Move Forward

Putting the arguments aside, it’s important to remember that Mike, Will, and Eleven are still children. Most high school romances don’t last, and that’s even before you consider the difficult experiences they’ve all been through.

Honestly, watching these characters, you really feel for them. They’ve been through the wringer – constantly in danger, dealing with loss… it’s been a lot! As a viewer, I just want them to find some peace. And I think the best way for them to move on with their lives is if they avoid getting tangled up in romance right now. They need to focus on themselves, you know?

Honestly, as much as I ship certain characters, I think forcing a romantic connection for Mike right now would be a mistake. Everyone – Mike, Eleven, and especially Will – needs time to process everything that’s happened and grow as individuals. I think the writers should just move past the ‘who will Mike end up with?’ question altogether. Let’s focus on their individual journeys and friendships, and maybe, someday, a romance could organically happen for Mike with someone, but it’s definitely not the priority now.

The final chapter of Stranger Things will arrive in two parts in 2025. Volume one will be available on December 25th, and the series finale will air on December 31st. Get ready to find out how the story concludes, if they manage to save Hawkins, and who ends up together – especially whether Mike and Eleven stay together!
