Jacob Tierney‘s latest Heated Rivalry update is anything but boring.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m thrilled to share some behind-the-scenes news! The creator of the show just gave us a peek at what we can expect in season two. They’re getting ready to bring the beautiful love story between hockey players Shane Hollander, played by Hudson Williams, and Ilya Rozanov, played by Connor Storrie, back to our screens, and it sounds like it’s going to be amazing!
Filming will begin in August, Jacob revealed in an interview with Gayle King and executive producer Brendan Brady on the February 26th episode of CBS Mornings. He explained that the writing process is currently underway, and they’re aiming to bring more of Heated Rivalry to television screens as quickly as possible.
As for when fans can see Shane and Ilya lace up their skates once again? April 2027.
Jacob confessed he was surprised by how quickly Heated Rivalry became popular, especially since HBO decided to pick up the show just a week before it first aired.
We honestly didn’t expect anyone to buy the show, or even watch it! I hadn’t planned for a second season at all, and I certainly wasn’t expecting one. But somehow, it’s all worked out and it’s actually happening.
Brendan offered some encouraging advice to fans eagerly anticipating the next part of the series, which will be based on Rachel Reid’s book, The Long Game.
“Like the best parts of this show,” he teased, “just enjoy the yearn.”
Now that Shane and Ilya have admitted their feelings for each other, the sixth book in Rachel’s Game Changers series explores the challenges they face as they try to hide their relationship from family, teammates, and fans.

Jacob successfully transformed a popular novel into a highly praised series. He was thankful that Crave, his partner on the show alongside the creator of Letterkenny, supported his creative direction, even though it was a challenging project.
He explained to Gayle that people had faith in both him and the source material, especially because of the existing fanbase. He felt many adapters wrongly assume they know better than the audience who already appreciate the book, and he prioritized staying true to the original story. He described the adaptation as very faithful.

However, don’t anticipate any additional episodes this season. Jacob, age 46, had already confirmed that the second season would consist of only six episodes.
He told the Los Angeles Times recently that he prefers to focus on quality over quantity. ‘I’d rather make each episode as strong as possible and fit in as much story as we can,’ he said, ‘than try to stretch things out with more episodes.’
As you eagerly await the second season of Heated Rivalry, grab a ginger ale (or two!) and check out these other great TV shows and movies based on books.

It’s based on a recent best-seller and shows Daphne picking up the pieces after a really tough breakup – Peter calls off their engagement for his childhood friend, Petra. But it’s not all bad news! Daphne gets some unexpected help from Miles, who happens to be Petra’s ex. I’m so curious to see how their story unfolds on screen!
