Heated Rivalry’s Hudson Williams Is Campaigning To Play A DC Hero (And I Think He’s A Great Choice)

Comic books remain incredibly popular, and after years of following the DC movie universe, fans are now watching James Gunn, one of the company’s CEOs, build a brand new shared universe. This has sparked a lot of speculation about who will play which characters in future films, with rumors and fan theories circulating constantly. Some actors are even openly hoping to land specific roles – for example, Hudson Williams from Heated Rivalry is actively campaigning to play Nightwing.

The HBO Max show Heated Rivalry is a huge hit, and its two lead actors are quickly becoming famous. Recently, one of the stars, Williams—who plays the main character Shane Hollander—tried to connect with his co-star, Gunn, by posting a message on Instagram. Hudson is boldly pursuing his dream role, and I admire his confidence! With the buzz around the HBO show Heated Rivalry, now seems like the perfect time for him to express his interest in playing Nightwing in the new DC Universe. James Gunn, are you paying attention?

For years, fans have been hoping for a Nightwing movie, originally planned under the previous DC Universe leadership. Director Chris McKay was attached, but the project stalled and never moved forward. While reports suggested the movie was cancelled within the new DC Universe, it’s possible James Gunn and his team are planning a different version. Hopefully, we’ll see Dick Grayson as Nightwing on the big screen eventually.

The previous DC movie universe lacked appearances from Batman’s sidekicks. We only saw hints of them – a deceased Robin’s costume in Batman v Superman and the cancelled Batgirl film – but Batman never really interacted with the wider “Bat-family.” Now, with the new shared universe beginning, fans are eager to see that change, and Hudson Williams seems perfectly suited to play Dick Grayson, also known as Nightwing. He definitely has the skills and build for the part.

The first group of projects for the new DC Universe is called ‘Gods and Monsters,’ and one of the movies announced was The Brave and The Bold. It was initially described as a film focusing on Batman and his son, Robin Damian Wayne. However, James Gunn has suggested that this family storyline might not happen, leaving me to question if Robin will even appear. As a longtime DC fan who enjoys Batman’s allies, I’m hoping to see some members of the Bat-family join the shared universe soon.

The next DC film coming out is Supergirl, scheduled for release on June 26th, 2026. Meanwhile, Hudson Williams is currently appearing in new episodes of Heated Rivalry, which air on Fridays on HBO Max. It remains to be seen if he will be cast as Dick Grayson/Nightwing in the DC Universe.
