Debuting on Amazon Prime today is Hedda, the latest reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s stage play.
Tessa Thompson plays the main character in the film, a new take on Hedda Gabler. It first shown at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival and recently began playing in a few theaters.
Thompson was also a producer on the film, directed by Nia DeCosta. The story, originally set in 19th-century Norway, was reimagined with a 1950s British country estate as its backdrop.
This new version of the classic play, Hedda, offers a darkly captivating experience and has been compared to films like Saltburn, largely due to its bold and contemporary soundtrack.
The film’s music was composed by Hildur Guðnadóttir, a celebrated Icelandic composer known for her work on projects like Joker, Chernobyl, and Tár.
The soundtrack also includes popular songs, plus original pieces co-written by Hildur Guðnadóttir and others, all performed by singer and voice actress Mariam Wallentin.
The music creates a captivating and immersive atmosphere, drawing the audience directly into the films’ settings and emotions.
Jóhann Jóhannsson’s music will be released as a separate album from the rest of the film’s soundtrack. You can find a complete listing of the other songs included in the film below.
