Helen Mirren expressed enthusiasm about the possibility of reuniting with her fellow cast members to produce another installment of The Thursday Murder Club series.
In the upcoming film based on Richard Osman’s popular novel, an actress who won an Oscar will portray one of the characters – among Pierce Brosnan, Celia Imrie, and Sir Ben Kingsley – who play retirees. These individuals pass their time by entertaining themselves by investigating cold-case murders as a pastime.
In an instant, Mirren shared with TopMob during an interview, she’d eagerly embark on another project with the same team – what a delight that would be!
We truly enjoyed making this, and we’d be thrilled if given another opportunity, to put it simply.
It’s fortunate that the Thursday Murder Club has ample resources for future stories, as Osman has already written three more novels following the initial one, and the fifth book in the series is scheduled to come out in September.
Mirren discussed her genuine camaraderie with her co-star Brosnan from the Thursday Murder Club, whom she worked with on the TV show MobLand, where they played a husband and wife.
Mirren stated that despite their distinct personalities, Pierce and she both share a similar work ethic – one that’s focused yet not overly self-important.
Neither of us practice the “method acting” style often associated with intensive character immersion. Instead, we settle into cozy spots with our scripts, taking a relaxed approach to acting together.
I recently stumbled upon Pierce, and I must say, it’s been an absolute delight. Working with them for the remainder of my career is something I aspire to do. I truly believe that we have a strong connection, a palpable chemistry.
In addition to the main four characters, this movie features actors such as Naomi Ackie, Tom Ellis, David Tennant, and Henry Lloyd-Hughes. Chris Columbus takes charge of directing the film.
Earlier this year, Columbus mentioned a desire for more direct sequels to his work, stating to Collider: “The exceptional writing by Richard Osman allowed me to assemble an acting ensemble that ranks among the best I’ve collaborated with since the Harry Potter series.
Bringing this movie to life was an absolute dream come true. I sincerely hope that I will have the opportunity to create not just one, but multiple sequels.
Beginning August 28th, 2025, you can watch The Thursday Murder Club on Netflix.
