As a seasoned movie buff who’s seen more films than I can count on one hand (and lost track of on the other), let me tell you, the anticipation for Hellbound Season 2 is as palpable as the fear of impending doom in the series itself! The intrigue surrounding this South Korean fantasy horror gem has left fans worldwide trembling with excitement.
On Netflix, the South Korean supernatural horror series titled Hellbound, which premiered in November 2021, quickly gained popularity, surpassing Squid Game as the platform’s most-watched program. With such success, it’s no wonder fans are eagerly anticipating a second season.
In a world reminiscent of a webtoon with the same title, the show is set in an alternate reality where supernatural entities suddenly reveal the time and date of a human’s demise – just as three enormous monsters burst through from another dimension, instantly incinerating the unfortunate individual.
In a prior release, a sneak peek at Hellbound season 2 emerged, revealing Kim Sung-cheol (of Sweet Home fame) stepping into the role of Jung Jinsu, a character who was portrayed by Yoo Ah-in in the initial season.
Alongside the trailer, Netflix also announced the release date for season 2.
Eager to delve deeper into what’s next for Hellbound? Here’s a roundup of the latest information we’ve gathered concerning season 2.
Hellbound season 2 release date
Hellbound season 2 is coming to Netflix on Friday 25th October 2024.
2021 saw the announcement that a second season wouldn’t be produced until after the publication of a follow-up story to the initial webcomic.
The creator, Yeon Sang-ho, shared with Variety that he and his collaborator, Choi Kyu-Seok, made a choice to present the subsequent story in a webtoon format initially.
Nevertheless, by September 2022, it was officially announced that the series would indeed continue with a second season, even though there have been no more comic book adaptations of the story published.
The announcement was made during Netflix’s global fan event TUDUM, with a short video teasing that “Hellbound will return for season 2”.
The eerie clip also features some pretty disturbing imagery – including a skeleton in a glass box – and you can watch it in full below:
Hellbound season 2 cast
In the initial run of Hellbound, various characters’ stories were presented, some of whom met their end before the conclusion of the series.
In the upcoming season, I’ll once again take on the tough and tenacious role of Min Hye-jin, the former lawyer turned powerhouse, who left an indelible mark as a formidable force in the previous installment.
It’s been verified that we can expect to learn more about Yang Ik-june’s character, Detective Jin Kyung-hoon, from Netflix. This character was one of the primary figures in the initial three episodes of the series, only to vanish midway through, leaving his destiny undetermined.
In the upcoming storyline, the character Kim Shin-rok is set to make a surprising comeback under the new identity of Park Jeong-ja. This unexpected reappearance occurs following her shocking death and banishment to the underworld, an event that was broadcast live for everyone to witness at the end of the previous episode.
Her unexplained resurrection begs a lot of questions (read on for more on that).

Hellbound season 2 plot theories
Earlier, a sneak peek at Hellbound season 2 emerged, showing that Chairman Jung Jinsu, head of The New Truth sect, is back among the living, having supposedly escaped from hell following his prolonged imprisonment.
Upon coming back, he finds out that the teachings of the New Truth doctrine, particularly its radical wing known as the Arrowhead, have taken over and are now governing the society.
Yet, it becomes clear to Jinsu that he isn’t the sole individual who has been resurrected, causing him to ponder about the cult’s teachings. Could returning to life truly mean damnation, as the New Truth suggests, or is it a route towards genuine redemption instead?
