Players of Xbox Series X|S won’t have to wait long before they can assist in promoting democracy across the cosmos. Upon its arrival, it seems this mission will feature a popular setting as part of a crossover event.
A new trailer for Helldivers 2 by Arrowhead Game Studios has been released, hyping up the forthcoming Xbox launch for the cooperative shooter published by PlayStation Studios. Towards the end of the trailer, there’s a sudden change in scenery to a gloomy, rain-soaked city, accompanied by some familiar jazz melodies…
It appears that there could be a possibility of a collaboration with Halo 3: ODST, given the ominous rain and mysterious musical notes in the trailer, even though it hasn’t been explicitly confirmed yet. This hint is particularly strong within the context of a promotional video marking the game’s launch on Xbox.
A Helldivers-Halo: ODST crossover is perfect
In 2009, the spinoff game Halo 3: ODST was released, created by Bungie as part of the renowned Halo series. This game takes place during Halo 2, focusing on a team of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (ODSTs) and their battle against the alien Covenant in New Mombasa, with their mission unexpectedly shifting.
Halo 3: ODST is highly regarded by fans for its distinctive tone and characters. A significant factor contributing to this appreciation is its film-noir atmosphere, with frequent rainfall at night, and a unique jazz-influenced soundtrack crafted by Marty O’Donnell and Michael Salvatori.
ODSTs or Helljumpers share a striking resemblance to Helldivers, leading many gamers like myself to long for such a crossover event since the launch of Helldivers 2. Now, with Xbox and PlayStation growing more collaborative, it appears that this dream is becoming a reality.
Notably, this isn’t the first time Helldivers 2 has crossed over with another franchise; previously, the studio introduced cosmetics and weapons from the PlayStation-owned Killzone series.
The extent of this crossover piques my interest. The classic armor, silenced submachine guns, and pistols are essential, but could we see a Warthog skin for the FRV? What about Covenant-themed equipment? These possibilities have me incredibly excited!
Helldivers 2 is scheduled to debut on Xbox Series X|S on Aug. 26, 2025. It’s currently available on Windows PC (Steam) and PlayStation 5, and it will support full cross-play across all three platforms.
Xbox and PlayStation are slowly getting more comfortable with each other

The strange nature of these recent events, compared to just a few years ago, cannot be understated. For instance, Xbox, which previously didn’t offer games like Sea of Thieves and Forza Horizon 5 on PlayStation, is now seeing some of its games being made available on the Sony-owned platform. It seems that even iconic franchises such as God of War or Horizon Zero Dawn could potentially be coming to Xbox soon. What was once unimaginable is no longer the case.
