It’s great news that Helldivers 2 is now available on Xbox Game Streaming for those who already own the game. This addresses one of my biggest worries about the game coming to Xbox, as it means you can play on more devices with greater ease.
I’ve often wondered how games are added to game streaming services, but the exact process is probably kept secret. Regardless, let’s look at what this means for Xbox gamers and why it’s important.
Thanks to @redphx on X (formerly Twitter) for pointing this out: you can now stream Helldivers 2 on any device if you own the game!

As I said before, this does ease one of my biggest worries about Helldivers 2 on Xbox. Unfortunately, the game doesn’t let you carry your progress between platforms or use Xbox Play Anywhere. And Arrowhead Game Studios has confirmed they don’t intend to add this feature, which is a shame, especially with the upcoming release of the Xbox handheld.
Even so, being able to play the game by streaming it directly from Microsoft’s servers is a nice perk. While you could always use Remote Play, this feels like a smoother experience when playing on the go.
Helldivers 2 success on Xbox
Helldivers 2 has become incredibly popular on Xbox, with some reports indicating it sold more copies in its first week on Xbox than it did on PlayStation. The game has already sold close to one million units (according to Alinea Insight) and has become the top-selling game on Xbox in many areas, which is great news for Sony.
I’m a huge Helldivers 2 player, like so many others, and I was really excited for the Halo crossover event! But honestly, the game hasn’t been running as smoothly as it should lately. The developers even came out and said they weren’t happy with the performance, which is a little worrying, but good that they’re addressing it.
This follows a request for Steam Deck compatibility, as Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani recently expressed his desire for it, saying:
Our main goal is to ensure the game runs smoothly on our intended system requirements. If we achieve that, performance on the Steam Deck will naturally improve. After that, we can explore offering more formal support for the Steam Deck.

Helldivers 2’s Steam Deck support isn’t ideal right now, but the developers are still working on improving performance for all platforms. Those improvements should eventually benefit Steam Deck users as well, though it might not be fixed immediately.
Helldivers 2’s future on Xbox and beyond
The game received a significant update in early September 2025, and another large update is coming soon. It’s exciting that it’s now available on Stream Your Own Game – it’s different from services like Game Pass or Xbox Cloud Gaming. Hopefully, Helldivers 2 will continue to thrive on Xbox, because Arrowhead Game Studios has already created something truly remarkable.
I’m not completely convinced cloud gaming is the way forward, but making games easier to play is always a good thing. If developers keep improving how well these games run, the experience will likely improve on all devices. Right now, though, many of us – myself included – are probably still enjoying Helldivers 2 on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation.
