Helldivers movie adaptation from Fast & Furious director confirms release date as major Hollywood star lands lead role

A Helldivers movie, the newest video game adaptation heading to theaters, has officially set a release date and cast a major actor as its star.

The Helldivers series began in 2015 with the first game developed by Arrowhead Game Studios, achieving moderate success. However, it became hugely popular with the 2024 release of Helldivers 2.

The series has become so popular that Sony Pictures announced in 2025 they were making a movie based on it.

Sony Pictures and PlayStation have announced the movie will be released on November 10, 2027, according to Variety.

Jason Momoa, known for his roles in Game of Thrones and Aquaman, will star in the movie, but details about his character are still being kept under wraps.

Jason Momoa is continuing to benefit from the surge in popularity of video game movies. He starred in last year’s successful “Minecraft” film and will appear as Blanka in the upcoming “Street Fighter” movie.

Momoa will be joined on set by Justin Lin, director of the Fast & Furious franchise.

As a big fan of PlayStation games getting turned into shows and movies, I’m really excited about Helldivers! It’s the fourth major adaptation we’re getting from Sony and PlayStation Productions – after Uncharted with Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, the Twisted Metal series on Peacock, and of course, the amazing The Last of Us on HBO. It’s awesome to see them bringing more of these games to life!

Helldivers centers around a team of highly trained soldiers fighting off alien bugs called Terminids and robotic enemies known as Automatons. They’re defending Super Earth, a somewhat comical and controlling society that claims to be bringing democracy to the rest of the galaxy.

It’s still unknown exactly how the Helldivers story will be adapted for film, but one thing is clear: the game’s passionate fans will definitely be there to see it.
