Fans are eagerly awaiting the new “Voltron” series coming to Amazon, and many are excited to see Henry Cavill in it. Recently, some possible first looks at Cavill’s character in the reboot have surfaced, though details about the project are still scarce.
A new report from Feature First reveals Henry Cavill will star as the kind King Alfur, and Sterling K. Brown will play the villain, Zarkon. The story will center on a young man who takes over his late mother’s job as a pilot of one of the Voltron Lions.
These details are currently unconfirmed rumors, but if they turn out to be accurate, they could significantly impact the movie.
Henry Cavill’s Voltron Role Is Suitably Legendary
The potential casting of Henry Cavill in the Voltron movie is gaining attention, largely because it might mean the film won’t strictly follow the original story.
As a big Voltron fan, it’s something I noticed right away in both the original Voltron: Defender of the Universe and the newer Voltron: Legendary Defender – King Alfor is gone. It’s a key part of the story in both versions!
Even if Amazon tells the story differently, Alfor’s death is a key part of every Voltron show. If the new live-action movie follows that pattern, Henry Cavill might not be in as many scenes as some fans are expecting.
Why Henry Cavill’s Casting Could Still Be Perfect

Even with a limited role, Henry Cavill could be very effective as King Alfor. His strong looks and commanding voice naturally suit a royal character, and would bring a sense of majesty to the late king of Altea.
It will be particularly fascinating to see how Alfor interacts with his daughter, Princess Alura. Alura is a key character in all versions of Voltron, and her relationship with her father, King Alfor, greatly influences her actions.
Henry Cavill needs to portray King Alfor as both wise and genuinely caring to really nail the role. Brown has hinted that Cavill’s character will be charming and the movie will be emotional, exciting, and full of energy, so fans are hoping it all comes together to make a fantastic film.
Despite Its Stacked Cast, Voltron Is Still Facing an Uphill Battle

As a huge cinema fan, I’m really excited by the casting choices – Henry Cavill and Sterling K. Brown are fantastic! It definitely feels like Amazon Studios has a lot of faith in this project. But honestly, it’s still too early to tell if it’ll all come together and be a truly great show. I’m cautiously optimistic, but I’ll be waiting to see the finished product before I get too excited.
Rawson Marshall Thurber, the writer and director, is best known for comedies like Dodgeball. Even his larger-scale films, such as the 2018 action movie Skyscraper, have a playful, over-the-top quality.
This isn’t to say Thurber won’t do a good job – Voltron is known for being a bit over-the-top, so he’s familiar with that style. It will be interesting to see his unique approach to the story. However, it seems likely that Henry Cavill’s portrayal of King Alfor will be a standout performance.
