Here’s Another Major PS5, PS4 Game Getting Delisted Soon

The popular social game Rec Room, available on PlayStation 5 and 4, is being removed from the PlayStation Store, its developer, Against Gravity, has announced.

Okay, so Rec Room’s shutting down. It’s pretty sad, but the game will officially go offline on June 1st, 2026, meaning we won’t be able to play it anymore – the servers will be turned off. They’re already starting to wind things down, like you can’t create new accounts now, and in May they’ll stop letting us buy the premium currency or create new stuff. It’s a bummer, but we’ve got a little time left to enjoy it.

Against Gravity is shutting down Rec Room because the game hasn’t been making enough money. Even with over 150 million players, the team couldn’t find a way to make the game financially sustainable – their expenses consistently exceeded their earnings.

The game’s website announced that despite a lot of effort, they couldn’t find a way to make the game financially sustainable. Recent changes in the VR market and challenges within the gaming industry overall made it too difficult to continue, leading to the tough decision to close down.

The developer is now sharing this news to show appreciation for the team who helped create it, and has released a video detailing the process.

Against Gravity wants to thank the Rec Room community for ten wonderful years. They say your creativity and passion have been truly inspiring and brought them a lot of happiness. While they wish they could have continued supporting the game, they’ve unfortunately reached the end of their journey.

As a loyal subscriber, I was so happy to hear that all RR+ memberships are now automatically extended to June 1st, 2026! And if you already had a 3, 6, or 12-month subscription, they’re going to refund you for any time you won’t be able to use because of the changes. It’s great to see they’re taking care of us!

Rec Room first launched on PlayStation 4 in VR with PlayStation VR in November 2017 and quickly became a very popular VR game. It was then updated to also be playable on standard PS5 and PS4 consoles. However, a version for the newer PSVR2 headset wasn’t created, as the developers determined the cost of making it wouldn’t be worth the potential return.
