The video game industry is often very secretive, even about games that have already been announced.
Today, a rare bit of insight has been shared about a project that sadly never came to pass.
So, I just heard from Travis Howe, an animator and writer, that he was on a team trying to get Sony to greenlight a remaster of the original Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy! It’s wild to think they were pitching to bring back the first game in the Naughty Dog series with a fresh coat of paint.
In a LinkedIn post, Howe explained this happened quite some time ago. His task was to recreate a game cutscene exactly as it was originally, to demonstrate what the game’s creators had in mind.
So, the project sadly never took off, but the creator did share some of his early work. It’s really cool to see what he was hoping to show studios to get them excited about funding the game – basically, a sneak peek at the pitch!
Howe admits a full remaster didn’t happen, but he’s still pleased with the final result and hopes people will like and share the video to help spread the word.
This is just a quick demonstration, so the final game might look a little different. However, it’s exciting to see a well-known scene reimagined in this way.
It often turns out that if you’re hoping for a specific game to be made or remastered, people working in the game industry have probably already discussed it – or even tried to get it approved.
