The official trailer for Invincible Season 4 reveals that Atom Eve’s powers are still unstable, a problem that originates in the original comic books. After almost being killed by Conquest in the explosive finale of Season 3, Atom Eve was revived using her own powers and unexpectedly developed new abilities.

She discovered that a mental barrier preventing her from altering living things disappears when she’s close to death, letting her heal herself and survive. This effectively makes Atom Eve immortal, though there’s a limitation to this ability.

What Is Wrong With Atom Eve’s Powers in Invincible Season 4?

The final scene of Invincible Season 3 showed Eve and Mark Grayson enjoying a private moment together after defeating Conquest. As Eve undressed Mark, she didn’t just take off his suit – she seemed to break it down and rebuild it on the floor. But during this process, the suit began to glow and melt, suggesting that Eve’s powers might be malfunctioning or have an unexpected side effect.

The issue continues into Season 4 of Invincible. In the recently released trailer, at the 0:24 mark, Eve visibly struggles with her abilities and warns Mark, saying, “Things are changing, Mark, and not for the better.”

Although Eve’s power issues started after her fight with Conquest at the end of Season 3, that battle wasn’t the real cause. The problem is actually connected to her pregnancy, but she and those around her don’t know it yet.

Wow, issue #68 of Invincible dropped a huge bomb! After that intense battle with Conquest, we find out Eve is pregnant with Mark’s baby. But it’s not a simple happy reveal – her powers are all over the place because of the pregnancy, making them unpredictable and unstable. Honestly, it’s understandable she hasn’t told Mark yet – she’s clearly reeling from the news and trying to process everything before sharing it with him. It’s a really interesting complication that’s sure to add a lot of drama to the story!

Okay, so things get really complicated for Mark right as he’s about to ship off and join the fight against the Viltrumites. He’s already facing a huge commitment, and then Atom reveals she’s pregnant. Now, in the source material, Mark is gone for almost a year, and that absence leads Eve to make a big decision. Honestly, I think she kept the pregnancy a secret from Mark because she was worried it would distract him during the war. She didn’t want him thinking about her and the baby and potentially making a fatal mistake in battle. It was a tough call, but she clearly felt it was the right thing to do to keep him focused.

Atom Eve’s Pregnancy In Invincible Sets Up a Dark Storyline in the Show 

Eve’s emotional state worsened due to the uncertainty about Mark’s survival and when, or if, he would come back to Earth. This led her to make the painful decision to have an abortion, as detailed in Invincible #79, because she couldn’t know if Mark was gone forever.

Fans have noted that addressing a complex issue like abortion marks a significant change for the show Invincible, especially since the comic book series didn’t shy away from sensitive subjects. Because the show closely follows the comic’s storyline, it’s likely we’ll see this plotline develop in Season 4.

The abortion storyline in the Invincible comics was designed to put a lot of emotional pressure on Mark and Eve’s relationship. Surprisingly, when Mark found out, he didn’t react with anger. Instead, he apologized to Eve, which was unexpected given the circumstances.

Mark’s apology fits his personality, as he genuinely felt bad about not being there for Eve when she needed him. Later in the Invincible series, after they resolved their issues, Eve became pregnant again and gave birth to their daughter, Terra, in issue #113.
