The film, titled “Chainsaw Man – The Movie,” picks up where the TV series ended, delving into the Reze Arc from the comic book version. Here, our protagonist Denji encounters a mysterious girl who captures his heart completely. However, matters become intricate as he struggles to manage his burgeoning feelings for her while also juggling his attraction towards his superior, Makima. Meanwhile, a fresh devil, known as the Bomb Devil, enters the scene. This arc is highly popular among fans, with many appreciating Denji’s development, the high-octane action sequences, and Reze as a character. The first season of “Chainsaw Man” was one of the most discussed shows of 2022, but an official announcement for a second season has yet to be made. This film serves as the first continuation of the anime in three years since its debut.
In Japan, the tune “Kick Back” by artist Yonezu was featured as the opening theme for the first season of “Chainsaw Man,” gaining widespread popularity. Over the subsequent years, Yonezu’s fame continued to grow, with two additional anime opening songs becoming massive hits in 2025. “Plazma” by Yonezu was used as the opening for “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX,” reaching No. 1 on the Oricon Weekly Digital Singles chart with over 43,000 downloads in its first week. A music video for the song has since been released, using footage from the anime. Yonezu has also performed “Bow and Arrow,” the successful opening theme for “Medalist.” Yonezu’s return to “Chainsaw Man” is a significant coup for MAPPA, given the musician’s rising profile.
