Kojima Productions recently made waves with both the announcement of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and a new, mysterious project called OD. A recent trailer, titled “KNOCK,” featured Sophia Lillis lighting candles as a growing knocking sound intensifies. The scene quickly escalates with an unseen, menacing presence obscuring her face before the video cuts to black.
As a big fan of Hideo Kojima, I was really surprised to hear how easily he got the idea for OD across to Phil Spencer at Xbox. Apparently, pitching it wasn’t as complicated as you might think for a Kojima game! Spencer recently shared in an interview that when they talked about the new project, Kojima laid out some seriously ambitious ideas, and even told him straight up, ‘I want to make a truly terrifying game.’ It’s awesome to hear him be so direct about wanting to deliver a really scary experience!
The partnership goes beyond a simple publishing deal. According to Spencer, development is moving forward with strong teamwork between Kojima Productions and Xbox Game Studios, focusing on both gameplay and technology. He also expressed being very impressed with the quality of the game, currently known as ‘KNOCK’.
Unfortunately, fans will have to wait a while longer for the game. The recent SAG-AFTRA strike in 2023 made it difficult to schedule filming, which has pushed back development. The team is working hard on it, but there’s no confirmed release date yet.
Currently, the game developer is independently working on the stealth action game Physint in collaboration with PlayStation Studios. He recently announced three actors – Charlee Fraser, Minami Hamabe, and Ma Dong-Seok – and shared the first concept art. Fans believe the art may depict the main character, possibly played by Robert Pattinson, known for his role in The Batman. A release date hasn’t been announced yet.
