High Potential Just Left Me With Two Big Questions For Kaitlin Olson’s Morgan, And I’m Betting One Gets Answered Way Sooner Than The Other

Beware, spoilers ahead! This discusses the most recent episode of “High Potential” for viewers who are watching on ABC, YouTube TV, or Hulu.

The podcast *High Potential* took a slightly awkward turn in its recent episode, “Content Warning,” by setting part of the story in a house full of young social media influencers and cameras. While the main murder mystery wasn’t central to the overall storyline following Kaitlin Olson’s character and her team, it was entertaining to watch a car get unexpectedly destroyed in an accident.

This episode moved the characters closer to finding out what happened to Roman, and also revealed more about the complicated and unpredictable new captain, Steve Howey. Let’s explore the key questions these developments raise.

Will Roman’s Backpack Actually Be Helpful For Morgan (And Ava)?

Now that the villain—who we all knew wasn’t really gone—has revealed himself, the main mystery of this season centers around Mekhi Phifer’s character, Arthur. He arrived unexpectedly and confirmed he was sent by Roman to watch over the Guillory family. In the latest episode, Ava disobeying her mother seemed to convince Arthur to give Morgan a backpack, suggesting it contains something crucial.

But what could it be, and will it actually be helpful Let’s try out a few guesses:

  1. The Diapers That Roman Went Out For

Finding that old pack of diapers Roman left fifteen years ago would be incredibly moving for Morgan – she’d likely be overcome with emotion. It would be a clear sign he’s genuine without him needing to explain anything about his life now. Also, the way Morgan and Arthur are carrying the bag suggests it doesn’t contain anything heavy.

That would require believing Roman’s captors let him hold onto diapers for fifteen years without incident, which is pretty unbelievable – but it’s the kind of thing you just accept when watching TV.

  1. A Map And/Or Other Information About Roman’s Whereabouts

Honestly, since I have no idea where Roman’s hiding out or who he’s around, it’s tough to say if anyone important would have bothered to check his backpack for clues about his location. But if he *did* manage to send Morgan some sort of signal – anything to show her where he is and how to find him – I really hope he thought it through. Even if it was super coded and only made sense to her, that would be a relief.

It would feel strange if such an obvious clue had been present for several episodes without anyone noticing or acting on it. So, I’m starting to think I agree with the idea that it’s a red herring – but only on this specific point.

  1. A Bunch Of Money

I don’t have any additional information to help with this guess. It just feels like a large sum of money could be involved, which is something most people would want. The only exception might be someone cooperating with the police.

What Is Cpt. Nick Wagner’s Deal, Though, For Real?

Ever since Steve Howey debuted as Captain Nick Wagner, he’s come across as someone with a hidden agenda. He has this unsettling vibe – not exactly confident, charming, or reliable, but definitely not the opposite either. What really worries me is his constant attempts to isolate Morgan – that’s all the warning I need.

Wagner is a high-ranking police officer with a long family history in law enforcement. Given his position and background, it seems unlikely he’d intentionally take a new job in 2025 if it meant appearing untrustworthy or prejudiced. This makes his recent actions confusing – what’s motivating him?

  1. Wagner Is A Plant Put Into Play By The Game Master

Okay, so the idea that this villain comes from a family of cops definitely throws me for a loop. But, hear me out – what if that’s *exactly* the point? If we assume this ‘Game Master’ is just putting on a confident act because they know their family has connections all over the LAPD, it suddenly makes a twisted kind of sense. Who better to manipulate things from the inside than someone who’s secretly on the villain’s side? It’s a clever angle, honestly.

  1. This Isn’t The Real Nick Wagner At All

Could this person actually *not* be who everyone believes Nick Wagner is? What if he was deliberately placed here… actually, I had a similar thought before. Okay, new theory: maybe he’s an alien!

  1. He’s Not Actually Menacing, And Is Just Awkwardly Crushing On Morgan

I’ve been thinking about Wagner, and honestly, maybe he’s not *trying* to be mean. It could just be extreme awkwardness when he’s into someone! I’m still not entirely convinced the showrunner’s comments about a love triangle were a red herring – maybe Morgan *will* be caught between Karadec and Wagner. It’s just… the new captain is giving off some seriously creepy vibes instead of anything romantic right now, but I can’t shake the feeling that connection might still be there.

Also, even if he’s attracted to Morgan, it doesn’t fully explain why he seems to prefer other people over Soto and Karadec, so I suspect there’s a deeper reason for his behavior. It’s easy to see why anyone would be drawn to someone as captivating as Morgan, considering her style.

With the midseason break for most shows just two weeks away, it seems likely we’ll find out what’s in Roman’s backpack much sooner than we’ll understand Wagner’s strange behavior. While there’s no guarantee of any major reveals when the show returns, I’ll be really frustrated if the mystery of the backpack isn’t solved quickly – ideally within the first ten minutes of episode six.

You can watch new episodes of *High Potential* on ABC Tuesdays at 10 p.m. Eastern, and they become available to stream on Hulu the following day.
