Wildlight Entertainment’s free-to-play competitive shooter, Highguard, is now available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. It had a surprisingly strong launch, reaching 97,249 players on Steam within the first two hours, which is a good sign for a free-to-play game that many didn’t expect to succeed.
Despite this, the game currently has a very negative rating on the platform. With over 2,600 user reviews, only 18% of players would recommend Highguard. That’s a pretty poor start, so let’s take a look at what people are complaining about.
One player didn’t like the 3v3 matches, thinking the maps would work better with more players – around five or six on each team. They also mentioned problems with the sound and felt the weapons, while decent, weren’t very exciting. Another reviewer complained about how well the game runs, even on a powerful computer, and also had issues with the anti-cheat system. A third reviewer with a high-end computer agreed about the performance problems.
The game currently has a lot of different problems, and some players have left negative reviews without explaining exactly what’s wrong. However, the developers at Wildlight Entertainment seem dedicated to improving things. They’ve announced a plan for the next year, including a new episode coming in February. Players can expect new characters, locations, bases, weapons, rideable creatures, temporary events, and even some unexpected features.
