Highguard had a big release this week, but early signs suggest Wildlight Entertainment’s first game might be facing challenges.
We previously shared that after the game was shown at The Game Awards, there was a lot of excitement surrounding its January 26th release, especially since there hadn’t been much news about it since the announcement.
The game reached its highest number of concurrent players on Steam, the only platform where we can track this data, with a peak of 97,249 players.
However, that initial surge didn’t last, and the game only reached a peak of 12,478 players in the last 24 hours.
We don’t have similar information for the PS5, but it’s likely the same pattern would show up there as well.
The game doesn’t need to be massively popular to succeed. It could still thrive by finding a smaller, dedicated audience.
Initial data indicates many people visited the site on the first day to see what it was about, but haven’t returned since.
Look, I’ve seen player numbers dip after a game launches, it’s normal. But this is way more than usual. If things keep going this way, it looks like we might be lucky to see 5,000 people playing at once by next week, which is kinda worrying.
Now that you’ve had some time to play Highguard, we’re curious about your thoughts. We initially liked it, but our recent poll shows a lot of you aren’t interested – 80% said you have “zero interest,” which means the game has a lot to prove to win players over.
