Highguard is Getting FoV Sliders on Consoles, ADS and Crouch Toggle Options on January 29th

Wildlight Entertainment is releasing an update for its game, Highguard, tomorrow to fix issues players have been talking about. The update will include features many have requested, like the ability to simply tap buttons for aiming and crouching instead of holding them. Console players will gain control over their field of view, and PC players will have more options to adjust the game’s graphics settings.

The development team announced on Twitter that they’re releasing an update tomorrow based on player feedback. This update will include popular requests like adjustable field of view settings for consoles, options to toggle aim-down-sights and crouching, and more graphics settings for PC players. They’ll share a full list of changes once the update is available.

This update comes after a server fix released yesterday to improve game stability. The developers are also planning more fixes in future updates, and are actively looking into ongoing problems while considering player feedback.

The new game Highguard launched earlier this week to a mixed reaction. Despite currently having “Overwhelmingly Negative” reviews on Steam, it’s still attracting a significant player base. Although the number of players has decreased from over 97,000 on launch day to around 10,000, that still suggests some people are enjoying the multiplayer shooter.

The game has received some negative feedback on Steam, mainly regarding performance issues. Some players with high-end PCs – like one using an AMD Ryzen 9 9800X3D and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 – report only achieving around 100 frames per second. Another common complaint is that the maps are too big for the 3-versus-3 gameplay, and many believe the game would play better with larger 5-versus-5 matches.

Many online have focused criticism on Highguard after its reveal trailer received prominent placement at The Game Awards 2025. Studio co-founder Chad Grenier explained that this placement was the idea of TGA host Geoff Keighley, who wanted to give Wildlight Entertainment a special moment. Grenier mentioned they had originally planned a surprise release, similar to Apex Legends, but ultimately agreed to the trailer reveal. Looking back, he admitted that placing the reveal at The Game Awards might have been a bit of a gamble.

We’ve known Geoff for years, and when he offered to help, we thought it was a bit of a gamble looking back. He wanted to do something different with the free-to-play PvP raid shooter. So, we quickly put together a trailer, but it didn’t get the reaction we’d hoped for. Now we realize we focused on making it entertaining quickly and didn’t really showcase what made the gameplay unique.

Highguard is free-to-play and available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
