Wildlight Entertainment quickly responded to player feedback by releasing a new update for their PvP raid shooter, Highguard. Update 1.0.4 includes several improvements, like adjustable field-of-view settings for console players, the ability to toggle aim-down-sights and crouch, and extra video options for those on PC.
The studio says they’re still making improvements to performance and plan to release them in the next update, but need a little more time to finish.
With the addition of the new ADS and crouch settings, players will now swap scopes if they quickly tap the Sprint button while aiming down sights. While this can be confusing for controller users, the developers suggest PC players change their key bindings to a dedicated scope swap button if they’re using the Toggle ADS feature. The team at Wildlight Entertainment is also working on a solution for console players who don’t yet have the option to rebind their controls.
Players on consoles can now adjust their field of view up to 110 degrees. We’ve also added options to turn off volumetric fog and adjust the level of detail for objects, letting you customize performance on your CPU and GPU. Finally, we’ve improved how shadows and reflections work on lower graphics settings.
Wildlight Entertainment announced that the latest update fixed issues with online connections and finding matches. As a result, crashes caused by using the game’s social features have decreased by approximately 90%.
Players can now turn on or off features like Anisotropic Materials, Chromatic Aberration, and Bloom. Motion Blur and Depth of Field can’t be disabled just yet, as the developers want to test them further before adding a disable option. A bug that limited laptop players to 60 FPS has also been resolved. You can find a complete list of changes in the patch notes below.
Highguard is a free-to-play game you can enjoy on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. You can find a detailed review of the game elsewhere on our site.
Highguard update 1.0.4 patch notes:

Game Input Settings
- Added the ability to set Crouch to Hold or Toggle for all platforms.
- Added the ability to set Aim Down Sights to Hold or Toggle for PC only (for now).
Video Settings
- Console users can now adjust FoV to 110.
- Low scalability settings for shadows and reflections are tuned for even more performance at the cost of some image quality.
- Low shadow setting now also disables volumetric fog.
- Added a new “View Distance Quality” setting that controls skeletal mesh LODs, which can be another useful control to tune GPU and CPU usage.
Players can now independently turn these features on or off, regardless of their other graphics settings.
- Anisotropic Materials
- Chromatic Aberration
- Bloom
I’m really excited about the possibility of turning off motion blur and depth of field! The developers are still working on making sure it’s done correctly so things don’t break, but they say we should see those options available very soon. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!
- DLSS users now have the ability to select a DLSS preset. More presets and better descriptions are coming in the next patch.
- Players can now select Off to disable Global Illumination entirely.
- Resolved an engine bug which could inadvertently throttled laptop users to 60 FPS regardless of frame rate settings.
