Those following Wildlight Entertainment’s Highguard know it hasn’t performed well since its release. It initially attracted nearly 98,000 players on Steam, but recently, it’s struggled to reach even 3,000 concurrent players.
After recent staff reductions left a small team working on the game, it appears the online shooter is likely to be shut down. Its official website is currently inaccessible, and has been for most of today. Wildlight, the game’s developer, hasn’t made any public statement about the issue. Their last official update was about a new game patch released on February 12th.
There are a few possible explanations for this, but overall, the situation doesn’t seem promising. While the Highguard server is still active despite having few players, it raises concerns about whether Wildlight can overcome potential issues and fulfill its plans for the future, even if this is just a temporary technical problem.
You can find a detailed review of Highguard – including information about the changes made, like the new permanent 5v5 mode – on our site. We’ve also covered the recent controversy surrounding the game, and a former artist recently spoke out about the negative feedback it received.
